Position Overview The Sales Director is responsible for developing and executing the commercial strategy for selling products/services to the new house builder (residential and social housing) primarily on a direct to house builder strategy however, part of the business supplies our customers via distributors/builders merchants and therefore, experience of developing this route to market would be advantageous but not essential. The sales Director will manage a small team of field based sales representatives and an office based estimating/preconstruction team. In addition, the role will collaborate closely with operations, marketing, finance and the wider senior leadership team to drive revenue growth, margin improvement and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities Sales Leadership & Strategy
Develop and implement a market-specific sales strategy targeting national, regional, and local house builders. Set annual revenue, margin and volume targets; monitor performance through KPIs and reporting dashboards. Build and maintain strong relationships with key accounts, decision-makers and industry stakeholders. Identify emerging trends, competitive insights and market dynamics to adjust strategy.
Team Management
Lead, coach and mentor a team of field sales representatives to achieve individual and team sales targets. Conduct regular performance reviews, ride-alongs and account planning sessions. Recruit, onboard and train new sales team members.
Estimating / Preconstruction Team
Oversee estimating team to ensure timely, accurate quotations and bid responses. Improve workflows between estimating, sales and operations. Ensure all quotes meet margin requirements and align with commercial strategy.
Business Development & Key Account Management
Drive new business acquisition while expanding market share with existing accounts. Lead negotiations on strategic contracts, pricing agreements and partnership programs. Work with marketing to develop targeted campaigns, events and distributor/building merchants focused support materials.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner with operations and supply chain to ensure capacity alignment, product availability and service excellence. Collaborate with product development to tailor offerings for builder needs. Provide forecasting and pipeline updates to senior leadership.
Financial & Operational Accountability
Manage departmental budget, including headcount, travel, training and promotional spending. Ensure adherence to pricing policies, discount structures and profitability expectations. Implement CRM best practices and maintain accurate sales pipeline data.
Required Qualifications & Experience 5 - 8+ years of progressive sales experience, including 3–5 years in a leadership role. Proven experience selling into the new home builder / social housing market. Demonstrated success managing both sales teams and estimating/preconstruction functions. Strong track record of revenue growth, margin management, and strategic account development. Deep understanding of builder procurement processes, tendering cycles, and project timelines. Skilled in negotiation, pricing strategy, and contract management. Proficiency with CRM systems and sales analytics tools. South Staffordshire based with regular UK travel.

Education Bachelor’s degree in Business, Construction Management, Marketing, or a related field (preferred). MBA or advanced business qualification is a plus.
