About the Opportunity We’re seeking a seasoned and results‑oriented Director of Software Engineering to lead key initiatives and teams within our Engineering organization. In this pivotal role, you will oversee the execution of high‑impact projects, guide and mentor engineering staff, and drive architectural and implementation decisions for new products and features.
You will also shape long‑term technical strategy, including proactive efforts to address technical debt and improve system scalability and maintainability. The role involves staying current with modern engineering trends, exploring and applying AI‑driven tools to support developer productivity, code quality, and overall delivery efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the Platform Engineering Group and provide strategic and operational leadership to modernize and maintain the foundational architecture supporting all ClearGov products.
Define and evolve system architecture and engineering patterns that prioritize resilience, scalability, and performance, championing platform‑wide initiatives that benefit all products.
Maintain and refine software development processes and best practices, ensuring systems remain maintainable, scalable, and testable. Expand and adapt standards as the organization grows.
Encourage the adoption of modern frameworks, practices, and AI‑powered tools to enhance team efficiency and system reliability, using data‑driven insights to guide improvements.
Stay hands‑on with key technologies including AWS, Node.js, Angular, and MySQL, guiding the team with practical expertise and sound architectural judgment.
Collaborate cross‑functionally with Product Management, QA, Customer Success, and other stakeholders to align engineering efforts with company objectives.
Lead initiatives to reduce technical debt, ensuring long‑term maintainability and agility of the platform.
Partner with the Vice President of Engineering on team resourcing, operating budgets, and project‑level expenditures to deliver projects efficiently and within scope.
Critical Skills/Experience
10+ years of experience in software engineering, focusing on SaaS‑based systems.
Proven experience leading and managing senior development resources.
Demonstrated success in defining and implementing software development processes and standards.
In‑depth knowledge of Scrum and Agile methodology.
Success managing complex, multi‑faceted SaaS product development in high‑growth environments.
Superb organizational and time‑management skills with the ability to prioritize effectively.
Adept at listening to customer input/feedback and identifying solutions.
5+ years working experience with SQL and relational databases; MySQL experience a plus.
Deep experience in core platforms:
Front‑End: Angular, Socket.IO, Highcharts, D3, Gulp, LESS.
Back‑End: Node.js, Express, RabbitMQ, MySQL, Elasticsearch.
Environment: AWS, Amazon S3, Git, JIRA, Confluence.
Great communicator with strong oral and written skills.
Passionate about growing careers and mentoring engineers across both individual contributor and manager tracks.

Compensation
Base salary for this position: $180,000 – $195,000 exclusive of fringe benefits or potential bonuses.
Hiring beyond the base range would not be typical; compensation is determined by skills, interview performance, education, and experience, ensuring pay equity.
