Job Summary The Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health is seeking a Lead Salesforce Developer to join its Application Development team during a pivotal moment of transformation. The school is modernizing the way it delivers non‑degree education, and this position will play a critical leadership role in designing, developing, and rolling out a major upgrade to our Salesforce environment.
The Lead Salesforce Developer provides technical direction for the CRM group and serves as the primary architect and developer for Salesforce solutions supporting non‑degree program education, student services, human resources, and research strategy and development. This role ensures the stability, security, and scalability of the School's Salesforce environments and related systems, while mentoring the CRM team and partnering with administrative and academic stakeholders.
About the Team
The Application Development team, part of the School's Information Technology Department, consists of three specialized groups: CRM, Web Applications, and Administrative Services.
The CRM group includes the Lead Salesforce Developer, a Senior Salesforce Developer, and a Salesforce Administrator.
The group manages three Salesforce orgs supporting non‑degree education, administrative services, and research strategy and development.
The team works fully remotely, collaborating across IT and functional units to design and deliver innovative and sustainable technology solutions that advance the School's mission.
Job‑Specific Responsibilities Technical Leadership and Architecture:
Lead the design, development, and implementation of a major Salesforce upgrade supporting the School's non‑degree education transformation initiative.
Architect and manage Salesforce solutions across multiple orgs using Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, Experience Cloud, and Marketing Cloud Account Engagement (Pardot).
Define and uphold technical and architectural standards, coding best practices, and integration patterns.
Evaluate new Salesforce releases and third‑party solutions to identify opportunities for improvement and innovation.
Maintain and enhance the School's SAML Single Sign-On (SSO) configurations for Experience Cloud sites and other Harvard systems.
Development and Delivery:
Translate complex business and functional requirements into robust Salesforce solutions using Apex, Lightning Web Components (LWC), Flows, and APIs.
Manage the full software development lifecycle, including version control, automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and release management.
Design and manage integrations with enterprise and external systems using tools such as OwnBackup, FormAssembly, Nintex DocGen, and UPay TouchNet.
Oversee data modeling, automation, and system configuration across multiple orgs to ensure security, performance, and scalability.
Collaboration and Mentorship:
Lead and mentor CRM team members, fostering a collaborative and technically rigorous environment.
Partner closely with business analysts, administrators, and stakeholders across academic and administrative units.
Serve as the technical point of contact for Salesforce and related CRM technologies across the School.
Governance and Quality Assurance:
Maintain thorough system documentation, including architecture diagrams, release notes, and configuration guides.
Ensure compliance with Harvard's information security, privacy, and accessibility standards. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Basic Qualifications
Minimum of five years' post‑secondary education and/or relevant work experience.
Additional Qualifications and Skills
At least 5 years of Salesforce development experience, including 2+ years in a lead or senior developer role.
Experience in higher education, research administration, or nonprofit organizations.
Experience leading remote teams and working in Agile or hybrid project environments.
Salesforce Platform Developer, Application Architect, or System Architect certifications.
Familiarity with third‑party Salesforce integrations including OwnBackup, FormAssembly, Nintex DocGen, and UPay TouchNet.
Understanding of data privacy and compliance frameworks such as FERPA, GDPR, and HIPAA.
Expertise in Apex, Lightning Web Components (LWC), SOQL/SOSL, Flows, and Salesforce APIs.
Experience working with Service Cloud, Experience Cloud, and Marketing Cloud Account Engagement (Pardot).
Strong understanding of Salesforce architecture, security, and identity management, including SAML SSO.
Proven experience managing multiple Salesforce orgs and complex integrations.
Proficiency with Git‑based version control and CI/CD tools (e.g. GitHub Actions).
Excellent analytical, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
