Assistant Manager

At True North Cannabis Co. & True North Vape, we are committed to providing safe, welcoming, and knowledgeable retail experiences in both cannabis and vape/tobacco environments. We're looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Assistant Manager to help lead our store operations, support our team, and deliver exceptional customer service while maintaining compliance with all applicable regulatory standards.
This is a permanent position who reports to: Store Manager, Senior Store Manager, or Regional Manager . The Assistant Manager supports day-to-day store operations and plays a vital role in team leadership, customer engagement, sales support, and compliance management across both cannabis and vape/tobacco departments.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Team Support

• Oversee daily operations of the store, ensuring smooth, efficient, and compliant service.
• Supervise and support staff across cannabis and vape/tobacco departments.
• Lead by example, motivating and inspiring team members to perform at their best.
• Manage scheduling, ensuring appropriate coverage for all shifts.
• Analyze business trends and adapt plans based on traffic fluctuations.
• Perform cash-outs and reconcile deposits, investigating discrepancies.

Customer Experience

• Provide friendly, professional, and knowledgeable service to all customers.
• Guide customers on both cannabis and vape/tobacco products in accordance with regulations.
• Address customer inquiries, concerns, and complaints promptly and professionally.
• Ensure all sales transactions follow company policy and regulatory guidelines.
• Support staff during peak periods and lead by example on the sales floor.

Operations & Compliance

• Ensure full compliance with AGCO and Health Canada regulations for cannabis operations.
• Ensure compliance with all Federal Tobacco and Vape Product Regulations.
• Maintain accurate sales and transaction records for both product categories.
• Conduct regular audits and investigate inventory discrepancies.
• Oversee security systems and ensure proper use for loss prevention and shrink control.

Inventory & Merchandising

• Monitor and maintain accurate inventory levels for both cannabis and vape/tobacco products.
• Coordinate efficient restocking, rotation, and labeling practices.
• Ensure product displays are clean, organized, and compliant with marketing restrictions.
• Stay current on industry trends, new product releases, and competitor offerings.
• Support sales events, vendor pop-ups, and community activations.

Team Development & Communication

• Manage and coach a team of 5+ employees, providing ongoing support and feedback.
• Oversee performance reviews and implement progressive discipline when required.
• Deliver continuous training to ensure product knowledge and compliance across all categories.
• Maintain open and consistent communication through daily and weekly updates.

Store Cleanliness, Health & Safety

• Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for staff and customers.
• Oversee daily cleaning and maintenance of store, exterior, bathrooms, and backroom.
• Enforce proper sanitation and health and safety procedures.
• Ensure all equipment (vape testers, displays, etc.) are clean and properly maintained.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of retail supervisory/management experience (team of 5+).
• CannSell Certification (required for cannabis sales).
• Knowledge of vape and tobacco sales regulations (training provided ).
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, POS systems, and inventory management tools.
• Experience managing cash and performing reconciliation.
• Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Strong organizational, problem-solving, and leadership abilities.
• Experience in a regulated industry (LCBO, Tobacco, Gaming, etc.) is an asset.
• Post-secondary education in Business, Accounting, or a related field is preferred.
• Must pass a criminal background check.

Essential Job Functions and Work Environment

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
• Must be able to stand, bend, kneel, reach, push/pull, and walk throughout the shift.
• Must be able to work a variety of shifts including days, evenings, weekends, holidays
• Must be of legal age to sell both cannabis and vape/tobacco products.
• Daily cleaning duties include:
• Picking up garbage in the lot, lawn, and sidewalks.
• Emptying garbage bins inside and outside the store.
• Sweeping, mopping, dusting shelves, and sanitizing surfaces.
• Cleaning bathrooms and ensuring compliance with hygiene standards

Our operating hours are 7 days a week and may range from 8am to 11:30pm
