About

The Lieutenant Governor is the personal representative in the province of the Queen in Canada. As such, the position is not only the Chief Executive Officer of the government but is also the embodiment of the Crown in British Columbia.

The Office of the Lieutenant Governor and Government House itself is multi-dimensional, supporting several distinct lines of business including constitutional and international protocol matters, ceremonial and hospitality events, and the management and maintenance of Government House as a National Historic Site.

The Office of the Lieutenant Governor is managed and maintained by staff and others, who coordinate constitutional, ceremonial, protocol, diplomatic, administrative, and operational activities at Government House and other locations. Special events vary in scope and significance, and average about 100 occasions per year.

JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Services Manager, the Server is responsible for providing guests with exceptional food and beverage service at Government House events.

SCHEDULE

  • As and when required, based on Government House event schedule
  • Hourly rate to commensurate with experience

ACCOUNTABILTIES

  • Effective written and verbal communication
  • Prepares room setup for events, including table and place settings
  • Maintains dining ambiance with an enthusiastic attitude and ability to work well under pressure
  • When required, ability to take client orders and serves meals, including the delivering of accompaniments and condiments
  • Protects establishment and patrons by adhering to sanitation and safety policies
  • Collaborates with Services Manager, bar and kitchen staff regarding client needs and requests
  • Communicates effectively with Hospitality Services Manager regarding meal progression
  • Maintains table settings by removing courses as completed, replenishing utensils, refilling water glasses, and being alert to patron spills or special needs

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS

  • Exceptional customer service skills, welcoming and serving patrons in a positive and friendly manner
  • Ability to perform high-quality work while unsupervised
  • Ability to learn quickly on the job
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Must be able to exert physical effort in transporting up to 50 pounds, endure various physical movements throughout the work areas, reach up and down, remain stationary at times throughout work periods

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

· Ability to obtain and maintain valid Serving It Right certificate

  • Experience with different styles of food and beverage service, including reception service, buffet service, and/or plated service
  • Experience balancing duties in a fast-paced environment

· Must be of legal age (19 years old) to serve alcohol

· Successful completion of security screening requirements, including a criminal records check

Job Type: Casual

Pay: $23.00-$28.00 per hour
