For position that are full-time and permanent, recruitment bonuses include: $3,000 on start date, $3,000 at 6 months of service, $5,000 at 1 year of service and $7,000 at 2 years of service.
As an Indeterminate or Job Share Laboratory Technologist you will earn a Tier One: $10/hour premium allowance.

ResponsibilitiesThe Qikiqtani General Hospital (QGH) in Iqaluit has an inpatient ward, an Emergency Department, and operating Room and several medical clinics. It is also the laboratory referral center for most residents of Nunavut. The QGH provides health care services to adults and children on an inpatient/outpatient and outreach basis in order to restore health with dignity.
Reporting to the Laboratory Manager, The Laboratory Technologist works on delivering Chemistry, Hematology, Transfusion Medicine, Microbiology, Mycobacteriology and Specimen Receiving/Processing Services. In addition to providing Laboratory Services to the Qikiqtani General Hospital, the Laboratory Department provides services to Iqaluit Health agencies; Health Centre's located in Nunavut and the Department of Health. The Laboratory Technologist analyses samples and conducts individual patient tests using both complex laboratory instrumentation and manual techniques. While performing analysis, the incumbent must be able to recognize normal and atypical findings and initiates the appropriate action.
QualificationsAdvanced knowledge of Laboratory Technologies, Principles and Standards of Practice including venipuncture, medical terminology and the ability to operate and understand complex laboratory instrumentation is required in order to provide direct hands-on laboratory services. The incumbent must have the ability to prepare samples and put them into media to encourage growth and an ability to identify growth when present.
The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a diploma or degree in Medical Laboratory Technology from a Canadian College or University. Experience in all areas of laboratory will be considered a major asset. You must be certified with the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science with a General Certificate in all areas (RT). This is a Highly Sensitive Position and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check is required.
The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut's official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.

All health care providers must be able to acquire within a reasonable time frame, the following training and certification: WHMIS, All Codes response training, Dangerous Goods Transportation, CPR and Handwashing In-service.
