Summer Student Position
The Township of Springwater, located in the heart of Simcoe County, is a mixed urban/rural municipality with growing urban settlements and a prosperous agricultural sector. The municipality is currently recruiting for Day Camp Supervisors for its 2026 Summer Day Camp Program.
Reporting to the Camp Coordinator, Day Camp Supervisors are responsible for coordinating and delivering all programs occurring at their assigned day camp site, as well as supervising and evaluating camp counsellors and volunteers.
Position ResponsibilitiesThe usual responsibilities of the position are:
- Plan and oversee daily programming, special events, off-site visits for camp participants to ensure an engaging, creative, age-appropriate, inclusive, and safe summer camp operation.
- Supervise, train, coach, mentor, and support the Day Camp Counsellors as well as the on-site Day Camp Inclusion Facilitators.
- Assists with the facilitation of camp training and attends all staff meetings.
- Provide support and respond to behavior management and emergency situations.
- Supervision and evaluation of Leader In Training (LIT) volunteers
- Meet weekly with Camp Coordinator & Recreation Supervisor to discuss camp enhancements and/or concerns.
- Work in all weather conditions both indoors and outdoors.
- Ensure compliance with Township policies and procedures.
- Communicate with staff, volunteers, parents & guardians.
- Ability to handle confidential and/or sensitive information
- Ability to respond to and deal with escalated situations in a calm, respectful manner
- Ensure the safety, enjoyment, and care of registered camp participants.
- Complete all camp paperwork as required. (eg. reports, staff evaluations, etc)
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Minimum 2 years previous experience working with children in a camp setting is required; previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
- Previous experience working with children or youth who have a disability is considered an asset.
- This is a summer specific position and staff must be available to work exclusively in June, July and August for the entire duration of the program and be available for required training in May and June to be considered for a position.
- All staff must hold a valid Standard First Aid/CPR C/AED certification (or if hired, must obtain by June 19, 2026).
- Certification in HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development from HIGH FIVE National (or if hired, must obtain by June 19, 2026).
- Applicants must be a registered full-time student during the preceding academic year and provide proof of enrollment of returning to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year. Preference will be given to applicants enrolled in a College or University program in a child-care related field (i.e. Child Studies, Education, Recreation, or Early Childhood Education, CYW etc.).
- Behaviour Management Systems and/or Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training is considered an asset.
- As a condition of employment, all applicants must be willing to submit a Criminal Records Search - Vulnerable Sector Screening that is acceptable and in good standing to the Township of Springwater.
- Access to a reliable vehicle is preferred.
The rate of pay is $20.71 per hour (2025 rate) plus vacation pay and statutory holidays as per the Employment Standards Act.
Hours of WorkThis position will work up to 40 hours per week between the hours of 7:30 am and 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday with a varying schedule to support operational needs and program demand. This position is a mixture of indoors and outdoors with work locations including Elmvale, Midhurst, Minesing, Anten Mills and other off-site destinations; reliable transportation will be required.
