About

The Health & Safety Coordinator is responsible for planning, implementing and overseeing company's employee safety at work. This includes promoting safety attitudes, safe work practices and environments. Their main duty is to ensure that the company is in compliance and adheres to Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) guidelines to ensure a safe working environment and prevent any injuries and accidents.
Major Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Implement safety plans while ensuring that they are being followed daily.
  • Maintain and exercise Health and Safety Manual, Fire Safety Plan, Emergency Response Plan and all incorporated documents, alongside the HR Manager.
  • JHSC Worker Representative: Schedule and assist with preparing meeting agendas and meeting minutes for the Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC)
  • Ensure employee training is up to date – Source & Update Training Files, alongside the HR Manager.
  • Conduct safety walks and inspections.
  • Conduct monthly workplace inspections.
  • Conduct risk assessments and job hazard analysis.
  • Promote safety standards and expectations as well as safe machinery operation with employees
  • Conduct weekly toolbox talks.
  • Conduct accident and near-miss investigations as required.
  • Execute and uphold emergency procedures.
  • Read & Understand Health & Safety Policies for Company.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Registration as a Certified Safety Professional or similar form of licensure as a safety officer considered an asset.
  • 1–3 years of experience as a Safety Coordinator or in a similar Health and Safety role, preferably within the construction or a related industry, is considered an asset.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel & Outlook.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of legislation, applicable laws and regulations (i.e. Occupational Health and Safety Act)
  • Leadership skills and a dynamic personality.
  • Critical thinker and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid driver's license and clean drivers abstract.
  • MOL-approved Full JHSC Certification (Part 1 & 2) is considered an asset.
