The Hartford We are a leading insurance company committed to making a difference. Join our Data Science Organization to support our patented Natural Language Processing (NLP) data asset by sourcing and integrating unstructured data into our core NLP platform. As a Senior Data Engineer, you will design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines, collaborate with NLP developers and business partners, and mentor junior engineers. You will bring a creative problem?solving mindset and strategic vision to deliver cost?effective solutions. Job Responsibilities Design, develop, and implement complex ETL/ELT processes using Python and SQL. Build and optimize data pipelines from diverse sources, including relational databases, NoSQL databases, APIs, and streaming data platforms. Collaborate with data architects, data scientists, and business stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions. Develop and maintain data warehouses and data lakes, ensuring data integrity, security, and performance. Implement data governance policies and best practices, including data quality checks, metadata management, and data lineage tracking. Automate data workflows, monitoring, and alerting systems to ensure reliability and efficiency. Troubleshoot and resolve data?related issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions. Participate in code reviews, mentor junior data engineers, and contribute to continuous improvement of data engineering practices. Evaluate and recommend new data technologies and tools to enhance platform capabilities. Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations and company security policies.
Job Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field (Masters degree preferred). 3+ years of experience in data engineering, software development, or a related role focused on data. Proficiency in SQL, Python, and JavaScript. Experience with Python packages FastAPI, spaCy, Pydantic, and DuckDB. Familiarity with cloud data platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and services (S3, Redshift, Snowflake, Databricks). Solid understanding of data warehousing concepts, dimensional and relational modeling, and database design. Experience with version control (Git) and CI/CD pipelines. Excellent problem?solving, analytical, and communication skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast?paced, agile environment. Experience in the insurance or financial services industry is a plus.
Hybrid Work Schedule:
Expected to work in the office (Columbus, OH; Chicago, IL; Hartford, CT; Charlotte, NC) 3 days a week (Tuesday?Thursday). Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S. without company sponsorship. The company will not support the STEM OPT I?983 Training Plan endorsement for this position. Compensation
Annualized base pay range: $101,000.00 $203,000.00 (may vary based on experience, performance, and competencies). The base pay is part of The Hartfords total compensation package, which may also include bonuses, long?term incentives, and on?the?spot recognition.
