About

Kidz Choice is seeking a warm, enthusiastic, and experienced Lead Teacher (Level 2 or Level 3 ECE) to join our full-day early learning program. We are a play-based centre that values curiosity, hands-on exploration, and rich learning experiences tailored to each child's interests and developmental needs.

As our Lead Teacher, you will create an engaging environment where children feel safe, supported, and excited to learn. You will guide staff, collaborate with families, and build a classroom community where every child can grow emotionally, socially, physically, and cognitively.

This is a contract position from February 2, 2026 to June 23rd, 2026. There is potential for long term employment.

The successful candidate will demonstrate substantial knowledge and practical application of developmentally appropriate practices in an early learning setting as well as an excellent understanding of all pertinent health and safety requirements.

Qualifications:

· Must Have a valid Childcare Certification of Early Childhood Educator Level 2 or 3

· Must Have or be willing to obtain a valid First Aid / CPR Certification

· Must Have or be willing to obtain a valid Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Search

· Experience working with preschool aged children in a play-based setting

· Knowledge of Alberta's Early Learning and Childcare Act and Regulations

· Familiarity with Alberta Curriculum Framework (Flight) is an asset

Characteristics and Responsibilities:

  • Provide a safe, developmentally appropriate full-day program following licensing regulations and Kidz Choice policies.
  • Create a stimulating, child-led learning environment where play, exploration, and curiosity drive curriculum.
  • Offer hands-on, meaningful experiences that support the whole child, emotionally, socially, physically, creatively, and cognitively.
  • Observe children's interests and needs, using this knowledge to plan responsive experiences and activities.
  • Support children in developing cooperation, problem-solving, and social-emotional skills such as sharing, turn-taking, and helping others.
  • Provide a balance of structured and unstructured play opportunities throughout the day.
  • Maintain a classroom that is safe, clean, welcoming, and organized.
  • Build children's confidence by helping them recognize their strengths and celebrating their successes.
  • Offer activities and materials that promote multicultural awareness and inclusion.
  • Communicate positively and professionally with families; share classroom updates, learning plans, and children's progress.
  • Guide and support classroom staff; help foster a collaborative and positive team environment.
  • Participate in classroom setup, cleaning, organizing, and outdoor supervision.
  • Prepare and post monthly learning plans that reflect children's interests and developmental goals.
  • Ensure proper supervision at all times and respond appropriately to children's needs.
  • Be familiar with snack routines, emergency procedures, and daily operational expectations.
  • Integrate children with diverse needs respectfully and collaboratively.
  • Attend staff meetings and contribute to program planning.
  • Provides direction and training to staff when needed
  • Support families in understanding program expectations, upcoming events, and their child's development.
  • Values collaboration, respects all colleagues equally, and contributes positively to a supportive work environment.
  • Receive paid planning time for curriculum development.
