Veterinarian Public & Shelter Veterinary Services

Location: Thunder Bay, ON
Schedule: Full-Time (40 hours/week)

This confidential opportunity is ideal for a veterinarian passionate about animal welfare and community impact. The role focuses on increasing access to veterinary care in underserved Northern regions while maintaining a strong work-life balance compared to traditional private practice.

Key Responsibilities

High-Volume Surgical Sterilization
Perform approximately 25 high-quality spay/neuter surgeries per day as part of a preventative and population-control initiative.

General Medical Care
Provide daily wellness exams, preventative care, and client education that supports long-term animal health.

Protocol & Program Management
Maintain and update preventative care protocols and medical standards within the clinic.

Team Leadership
Provide direction and feedback to RVTs, veterinary technicians, and veterinary assistants.

Compliance & Safety
Ensure adherence to all internal medical protocols, safety policies, infection control practices, and controlled-substance procedures.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary Range
$150,000 $160,000 CAD annually (based on a 40-hour work week).

Northern Location Premium
Additional location-based premium compensation (commonly around $15,000/year for Northern Ontario regions).

Incentives & Bonuses
$10,000 retention bonus after one year of employment.

Work-Life Balance
No evening or weekend shifts, and minimal on-call requirements.

Relocation Assistance
Financial support for relocation and transition costs, including assistance with licensing or immigration processes if relocating from the U.S.

Paid provincial licensing and membership dues.

Required Qualifications

Must be licensed (or eligible to become licensed) to practice veterinary medicine in Ontario and in good standing with the provincial regulatory body.
Strong surgical proficiency, particularly in high-volume sterilization (targeting ~25 surgeries per day).
Ability to lift 40 lbs (18 kg) and stand for extended periods.
Excellent communication skills and a strong foundation in animal care and welfare.
U.S. veterinarians encouraged to applysupport is available for accreditation and relocation.
