Position Information:
Durham
College is seeking an experienced and motivated professional who shares our
commitment to quality and student success. The Faculty of Science and Engineering
Technology requires a part-time professor to teach Project Estimating I (ATPE 3132) in our Architectural
Engineering Technology program.
Students study the basic principles of project
scoping, input requirements, and costing for a modest sized construction
project. The course covers general principles of measurement and pricing of
construction work, focusing on sound estimating procedures and defining cost
estimates throughout the project life cycle. The course emphasizes specific
methods of measurement, estimating forms, earthwork, masonry, above-grade
concrete, wood frame, and structural steel work items. The concepts surrounding
potential cost escalation factors are studied. Students will complete quantity
takeoffs and pricing for a residential building and office/factory building.
Students will understand differences between databases, spreadsheets and manual
methods.
IMPORTANT NOTE FOR PART-TIME FACULTY APPLICANTS
Part-time
recruitment is ongoing and is dependent on when courses are being taught and
the need for faculty to teach.
Part-time faculty teach up to 6 hours per week with varied schedules Monday
through Thursday between 8:00 am and 9:00 pm and Fridays between 8:00 am and
6:00 pm.
