Job Description:
POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:
The role is responsible for performing yard maintenance duties and ensuring The Salvation Army Maple Creek Ministries and facilities are maintained in a safe manner in compliance with applicable standards.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
The incumbent may perform all, some, or a similar range of duties.
- Responsible for any combination of light cleaning duties to maintain defined work areas.
- Ensure the weekly upkeep of the facilities, i.e., snow removed, sidewalks clear at all times, ice removed from sidewalks and driveway/parking lot areas, lawn maintenance, weed removal, leaves removal in fall/spring, picnic table area clean from debris.
- Identify/report to the supervisor any repairs that may require an external service provider.
- Ensure the general upkeep of external property, keeping sidewalks and entrances clear of snow and ice, including salting, litter pick up.
- Lawn care at the location.
Health and Safety
- Contribute to the overall safety of staff, volunteers, donors, clients, and guests (e.g., no obstacles outside the buildings)
- Use personal prescribed safety equipment and clothing as directed by the employer.
- Report any workplace hazards, dangers, safety issues, injuries, or illness' immediately and ensure care is taken with all equipment and property.
- Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures.
Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT:
Internal: Corps Officer, MU leadership and staff, volunteers, clients
External: Community, general public
MANAGERIAL/TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reports directly to the Corp. Officer.
Direct reports: None
FINANCIAL AND MATERIAL MANAGEMENT:
- Minor material responsibility.
- No financial responsibility. The above responsibilities must be discharged in accordance with The Salvation Army's Mission Statement, in a professional manner, and in accordance with our code of conduct.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Work environment is typically at the facilities in generally agreeable conditions. Some duties (grounds keeping) should be performed outdoors.
- The performance of the job requires operating industrial cleaning equipment and tools, reaching, bending, twisting, lifting, occasional ladder work, and fine motor skills.
- Requires moderate to high attention when handling hazardous chemicals and using non-motorized/general cleaning equipment.
- Ability to lift/move up to 49 pounds.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.

Education, Qualifications, and Certifications:
- Completion of Secondary School.

Experience and Knowledge:
- Up to 1 year of prior related experience, including custodial and life skills, and general familiarity with cleaning and Maintenance procedures and equipment.
- Knowledge of Health & Safety Standards.

Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $15.35 to $17.83 with a maximum of $21.40.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
