Position Description:

We are Canada's largest independent information technology services firm, and after 45 years, we're still growing Join Canada's largest IT Company as a "Lead API Platform Consultant" in our Banking Services Division.
Location - Downtown Toronto (Hybrid - 2 to 3 days office per week and rest day remote)
We are looking for a Solutions Engineer to serve as the technical lead for the Apigee Hybrid platform, responsible for guiding our team of engineers and ensuring the secure, reliable, and scalable operation of our enterprise API management ecosystem. This role requires deep experience across Apigee, GCP, GKE/GDC/Kubernetes, cloud and on-prem networking, and Apigee Hybrid operations.  


Your future duties and responsibilities:


• Act as the primary technical lead for Apigee Hybrid, providing hands-on engineering leadership across runtime, ingress, routing, shared flows, and platform components.
• Lead operational readiness activities and cross training for our team including installation, upgrading, scaling, automation, monitoring, and ongoing platform maintenance.
• Troubleshoot and resolve go-live production issues, performing root cause analyses and driving long-term reliability improvements.
• Consult with infrastructure hosting team and vendor partners with GKE infrastructure supporting the Apigee runtime: node pools, RBAC, workload identity, certificates, and cluster networking.
• Partner with cloud, security, and networking teams to maintain network flows and controls for Apigee, including DNS, firewalls, load balancers, and north/south traffic routing.
• Support API Management DevOps team improve our existing CI/CD processes for API proxies, shared flows, bundles, and configuration deployments using GitOps automation.
• Establish and maintain platform standards, onboarding patterns, reusable assets, and operational documentation for development teams.
• Collaborate with architects and product teams to ensure secure API design, adherence to governance controls, and alignment with enterprise architecture.


Required qualifications to be successful in this role:


• 5+ years in Solutions Engineering, Platform Engineering, SRE, or similar roles.
• Hands-on experience with Apigee Hybrid in production environments.
• Strong expertise with GCP, GKE, and Kubernetes (networking, workloads, security, scaling).
• Solid understanding of enterprise networking concepts: DNS, firewalls, VPC design, load balancers, routing, mTLS.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, GitOps, Terraform, Cloud Build, or similar tooling.
• Strong grasp of API security (OAuth, JWT, mTLS), quotas, rate limiting, and operational governance.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to guide engineers and work across diverse technology teams.
Nice to Have
• Experience with Apigee X or migration from Hybrid.
• Exposure to service mesh technologies (Istio/Anthos).
• Familiarity with alternative gateways for comparative analysis.
