Description Greenhills School has an exciting opportunity for a Lead Systems Administrator to join our Information Technology (IT) team. We seek a highly skilled, self-motivated, and solutions-oriented professional to serve as the technical lead for a small team of IT specialists and administrators. The Lead Systems Administrator will be responsible for leading complex projects, making informed recommendations, and implementing, maintaining, and supporting critical systems that enable the mission and operations of Greenhills School. This role involves analyzing, evaluating, and recommending technology solutions based on institutional needs, budget considerations, and opportunities to enhance school?wide strategy, efficiency, and service quality. As a key member of the IT Department, the Lead Systems Administrator will stay current with emerging technologies and educational technology trends to ensure Greenhills remains innovative and secure. The position includes on?call responsibilities and requires versatility to assist across IT functions, including helpdesk support, software and systems training, and application support. Daily collaboration with faculty, staff, and students is an essential part of the role, and strong customer service and communication skills are vital. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Lead Systems Administrator serves as both the technical expert and team leader for Greenhills Schools Information Technology operations. This individual ensures high?quality service delivery, system reliability, and innovation across two physical locations including the opportunity to help architect technology systems from the ground up at a new campus location. Leadership & Team Management
Lead, mentor, and support a small team of IT professionals, ensuring consistent, high?quality service and strong internal collaboration. Serve as the technical lead on the team, resolving complex technical issues and performing system improvements. Foster a positive, solutions?oriented team culture that encourages learning, professional growth, and excellence in service delivery. Collaborate closely with the Director of Information Technology Services to align IT initiatives with the schools strategic goals and vision. Delegate effectively while maintaining accountability for project outcomes and team performance. Systems Administration & Infrastructure
Analyze, plan, and implement changes to maintain and improve the schools server and network infrastructure. Architect, configure, and maintain core systems including servers, networks, storage, and cloud?based services. Identify and address single points of failure, and make recommendations to improve system redundancy, reliability, and scalability. Monitor all systems for availability, performance, error conditions, resource utilization, and backup integrity; escalate and resolve issues as needed. Ensure system security and compliance with school policies and industry best practices. Device & Application Management
Manage the inventory, deployment, maintenance, and lifecycle of all computer and mobile devices. Oversee software distribution and application packaging across faculty, staff, and student devices. Maintain accurate records of hardware and software assets, and ensure standardization of configurations and updates. Implement and support endpoint management systems and mobile device management (MDM) platforms. Technical Support & Service Delivery
Provide 1st and 2nd level technical support for faculty, staff, and students, as needed. Collaborate across departments to resolve ongoing or emergent technical challenges. Proactively identify opportunities for service improvement and implement enhancements based on user feedback, ticket data, and technology trends. Lead the evaluation, testing, and rollout of new and existing technologies to meet evolving needs of the Greenhills community. Ensure documentation of systems, configurations, and procedures for internal knowledge sharing and continuity. Strategic Initiatives & Innovation
Partner with school leadership to design and deploy technology infrastructure for the new campus, including networking, servers, and integrated systems. Stay abreast of emerging technologies and best practices in K12 IT to inform future planning and system design. Develop and maintain relationships with IT professionals in peer institutions to share best practices, benchmark systems, and collaborate on problem?solving. Support strategic planning, cybersecurity initiatives, and the long?term vision of technology at Greenhills School. Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
Actively participate in IT team meetings, project discussions, and strategic planning sessions. Document and share knowledge through internal kbs, ticketing systems, and project management tools. Promote transparency and accountability across all IT functions. Serve as a role model for professionalism, integrity, and service excellence. Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by the Director of Information Technology Services. SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Required Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience. 5+ years of progressive experience in systems administration, network management, or related IT infrastructure roles. Proven experience leading or supervising a small technical team with a focus on service quality, collaboration, and mentorship. Strong technical expertise in:
Server and network infrastructure (Windows Server, Linux, VLANs, firewalls, DNS, DHCP, etc.) Cloud and hybrid environments (Google Workspace Admin, Azure AD) Endpoint management tools (e.g., Mosyle, Intune, or comparable MDM solutions) Virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper?V, or similar) Backup, disaster recovery, and security best practices
Demonstrated ability to plan, implement, and manage complex IT projects from inception to completion. Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and problem?solving skills. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, and leadership. Commitment to providing exceptional customer service and maintaining a professional, approachable demeanor. Experience developing and maintaining technical documentation, knowledge bases, and process transparency tools. Availability for occasional evening or weekend work as needed. Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in K12 schools or other educational environments. Hands?on experience designing and deploying technology infrastructure in new facilities or multi?campus settings. Familiarity with Google Workspace for Education, Windows Active Directory, and network security frameworks. Knowledge of educational technology systems such Blackbaud and Google Classroom. Relevant certifications such as:
CompTIA Network+ or Security+ Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA) or equivalent Google Certified Administrator Cisco CCNA or equivalent network certification
