Summary
The Sr Systems Administrator performs and oversees a variety of functions to ensure IT infrastructure is available, reliable, secure, and stable. They will apply advanced judgment and analysis in the evaluation, selection, installation, and maintenance of systems software and hardware. This role will be responsible for monitoring systems and serving as a focal point for support. The Sr Systems Administrator will plan for the future by setting and documenting direction for their specific area of responsibility for the information systems infrastructure is expected. Primary duties will revolve around applying existing Linux skills with the willingness to learn, manage and support all aspects of our big data environments. Duties and Responsibilities Independent ability to quickly analyze, isolate and diagnose complex problems, recommend remedial actions, and implement resolutions. Applies advanced technical methodologies to the computing infrastructure, monitor operating efficiencies, performance tuning and assist in capacity planning. Reviews, evaluates and recommends new or upgraded systems software packages and related hardware, based on established standards. Develops detailed implementation plans based on the architectural plans and complete implementation. Serves as Technical Lead on medium to large enterprise projects according to division standards and requirements. Transforms business requirements into technical architecture requirements and design application architectures, which are scalable, robust, and manageable, while balancing the price/performance. Works closely and escalates issues directly with vendors to ensure that supporting operating systems are compliant with applications, including required patch levels, hot fixes, and revisions. Implements application and database high availability techniques and application/network security concepts.
You Must Have
5+ years of systems administration experience and 0-2 years of project or technical consultant responsibility. Bachelor's degree in the field of Information Systems, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering, with a minimum of 24 semester hours of computer?related courses, or two additional years of direct work experience. Ability to travel up to 10% of the time. Ability to work remote, hybrid, or on?site as directed by management and is determined by the needs of the business. Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this job. United States Citizenship. Ability to obtain and maintain, if required for position, a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance (some positions require additional DOE designations).

Hands?on knowledge of RedHatEnterprise Linux (RHEL) administration, including servers, workstations, and peripheral device integration. Proficient with infrastructure?as?code and automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, PowerShell, Python) to provision, configure, and maintain databases, web services, and applications. Experience installing, configuring, and managing web/application servers, database clusters, backup?and?recovery systems, portals, firewalls, VPNs, terminal services, authentication/authorization, collaboration platforms, and load?balancing solutions. Strong command of Hadoop?ecosystem technologies (Spark, HDFS, Hive, Kafka, NiFi, HBase, Yarn, Zookeeper, etc.) and hands?on implementation of the Cloudera Data Platform. Background with relational and NoSQL stores (SQL, Hive, Cassandra, MongoDB, HBase, in?memory databases) and the ability to optimize performance and reliability. Proven expertise in designing, building, and operating end?to?end CI/CD pipelines (GitLabCI, Git, Ansible or equivalent), with a focus on automated testing, reliable artifact promotion, and continuous delivery. Production?level experience with Kubernetes across multiple distributions (OpenShift, ROSA, Amazon EKS) including multi?cluster management, policy enforcement, and monitoring. End?to?end ownership of OpenShift deployments (on?prem and cloud), leveraging Advanced Cluster Management, Quay, Operators, GitOps, and Service Mesh to ensure security, scalability, and high availability. Working knowledge of AI/ML workflows, GPU?accelerated computing, TensorFlow, and related tooling to support data?science workloads. Ability to craft and present clear, strategic technical roadmaps that resonate with both technical teams and senior leadership.
