About

Join Meta as a Battery Design Engineer, where you will lead the development of battery pack electrical designs that power cutting-edge devices at Reality Labs. You will collaborate closely with product engineering teams to establish battery requirements, focusing on optimizing product volume, weight, and runtime. Your role will include supporting New Product Introduction activities to ensure manufacturing processes align with design specifications. Collaboration will be key as you work alongside safety, reliability, operations, software, and other cross-functional teams to seamlessly integrate the battery systems into the final products, meeting performance metrics. Additionally, you will support final assembly at supplier sites and assist the sourcing team with cost analysis, supplier audits, and market evaluations. Key Responsibilities Collaborate with product groups to define and deliver battery packs according to requirements. Engage with vendors to develop battery packs that meet Meta's specifications. Create engineering requirements, specifications, and validation plans for battery manufacturing and testing. Design electrical and interconnect architectures for battery management systems. Develop test boards and fixtures to validate battery performance. Establish processes and best practices to enhance design scalability across programs. Outline electrical and thermal characterization requirements for batteries. Support hardware integration concerning interface and connection issues. Assist early-stage New Product Introduction builds to ensure alignment with design intent. Conduct failure analysis and root cause investigations, producing corrective action plans. Communicate problems and solutions to cross-functional teams effectively. Identify system interactions affecting battery module performance, including thermal impacts and product accessory interactions. Perform battery gas gauge performance evaluations at module and system levels. Assist in software integration for system functionality and performance. Travel domestically and internationally to supplier sites and testing laboratories. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent industry experience. 3+ years of experience in Li-ion battery pack design. Knowledge of Battery Management Systems and fuel gauging. Strong application of electrical engineering fundamentals in product solutions. Experience working in consumer electronics. Proficient in PCB schematic capture and layout using Altium. Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with Product Design engineers and hardware/software teams. Preferred Qualifications Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering or equivalent industry experience. 5+ years of experience in Lithium-ion battery pack design. Expertise in battery protection circuits and communications protocols like I2C and UART. Strong background in analog and digital circuit design and schematic/layout tools. Experience with statistical analysis tools and Design of Experiments, including JMP or Minitab. Programming skills in languages such as Python or C and other scripting languages. Experience in high-volume production environments. Exceptional communication and presentation skills.
