About

The Otto Specht School seeks a speech language pathologist to provide Communication services and support at our school located in Chestnut Ridge, NY.
The Otto Specht School offers an adapted Waldorf curriculum designed to meet the needs of students with social and sensory sensitivities, developmental delays, and learning challenges. We provide developmentally appropriate academic and artistic curricula in small, individualized class settings. Artistic activities - speech and movement, visual and musical - are integral to our classroom activities, as are practical skills such as cooking, handwork, woodworking, farming, and animal care.
We are looking for an experienced, licensed pediatric speech-language pathologist to join our team providing center- based services to a diverse population of children, from kindergarten age to 21 years of age. Students may exhibit speech and language delays, language disorders, apraxia, and autism spectrum disorders to name a few. We work with our students from educational and developmental models based primarily on the Waldorf philosophy. Treatment approaches include language stimulation through play-based social interaction, use of verbal words as well as signs, gestures, and AAC.
Duties and Responsibilities:
● Maintaining knowledge of Speech and Language Pathology and communication therapy theories, models of practice, principles, and evidence based practice
● Ability to articulate the role of the SLP in the evaluation, intervention planning, and intervention process.
● Ability to recognize performance deficits in the areas of student linguistic abilities, interactive skills, processing skills, play, community integration, and pragmatic communication
● Skill in gathering screening and evaluation data
● Effective oral and written communication
● Ability to maintain safe environments, equipment, and materials
● Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records and progress notes
● Willingness to be educated and trained for specific program implementation
● Initiative, strong work ethic, and the ability to positively interact and collaborate in a team environment
● Complete thorough evaluation in all areas of communication.
● Educate and demonstrate (verbally or written) therapy techniques to faculty, staff, and parents that can be incorporated at school and in the home
● Develop and implement Student Learning Plan /IEP to meet the individual needs of the child.
● Attend staff meetings, in-service training, and continuing education courses as appropriate or required.
● Attend training in foundations of Waldorf Education
● Assess and make recommendations regarding the use of adaptive equipment or technology as needed and provide written justification.
● Responsible for timely documentation of evaluation results, progress reports, discharge reports, daily notes, service tracker notes.
● Maintain professional clinical competency by attending certified CEU in-services and workshops.
● Other duties as assigned.
*Qualifications:*
* Master's Degree in Speech and Language Pathology or Communicative Disorders
* New York State licensure in Speech and Language Pathology
* Current TSSH/TSSLD certification
* Minimum 2 years experience in school or other pediatric setting
* FEEDING THERAPY A PLUS!
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $70.00 - $80.00 per hour
