Job Description
A sous chef is a crucial member of the culinary team, responsible for overseeing kitchen operations and ensuring seamless execution of menu items. This role demands exceptional leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and manage a high-performing team.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in culinary arts, with at least one year of experience as a sous chef in a high-volume restaurant setting. Proficiency in mathematical calculations, particularly percentages, is also essential.
- Lead the back-of-house department to maintain high standards of food quality and consistency
- Manage labor costs, investigate budgetary misses, and implement corrective actions
- Supervise cooks and porters, providing clear direction and ensuring timely preparation of dishes
- Collaborate with the executive chef to develop menus, train new staff members, and address Department of Health compliance issues
