Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Optometric Assistant / Receptionist to join our healthcare team. This role involves providing exceptional patient care, managing front desk operations, and supporting clinical activities within our optometry practice. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, medical office experience, and a passion for delivering excellent patient service. The position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic environment where clinical knowledge and administrative expertise are essential for success.
Responsibilities
- Greet patients warmly and efficiently manage patient intake processes
- Assist with patient check-in and check-out procedures, including verifying insurance information
- Support clinical staff with doing pre screening tests and procedures
- Manage appointment scheduling using EMR systems
- Educate patients about optical products, services, and treatment options to support retail sales efforts
- Handle front desk responsibilities including answering phones, managing correspondence, and coordinating patient flow
- Assist with billing, coding, and documentation related to ophthalmology services and pediatrics when necessary
- Maintain a clean and organized clinical environment adhering to safety standards
- Assisting patients choose eye wear and lenses to suit their daily needs
Qualifications
- Prior experience in medical office settings, ophthalmology, or optometry preferred
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and medical billing/coding practices
- Familiarity with EMR systems such
- Retail sales experience or retail math skills beneficial for optical product consultations
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to provide compassionate patient care in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work effectively at the front desk handling multiple responsibilities simultaneously
- Knowledge of optometry Office practices an asset but not required
