Job Description:

Position: Personal Support Worker

Status: Permanent, casual relief

Location: 1340 Dundas Street, London, ON
Program Areas: Adult Day Program for Seniors

Rate of Pay: 24.63 per hour

Position Summary

Personal Support Workers (PSWs) provide compassionate care and assistance to seniors attending the day program, supporting their physical, emotional, and social well-being. They promote a safe, engaging, and person-centred environment that enhances participants' quality of life and independence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide assistance with personal care, mobility, toileting, and bathing in a safe, respectful manner.
  • Support meal/snack preparation, serving, and cleanup in accordance with Safe Food Handling principles.
  • Assist with program activities and recreation to promote engagement and social interaction.
  • Maintain accurate records and communicate client needs, incidents, or changes in condition to the Supervisor or Nurse.
  • Monitor and support infection prevention, health, and safety practices at all times.
  • Respond effectively in emergencies and follow established procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, organized program environment and replenish supplies as needed.

Qualifications

  • Personal Support Worker Certificate is required.
  • Registration with HSCPOA preferred
  • Minimum of one (1) year of prior work experience working with cognitively impaired/frail elderly populations.
  • Current Standard First Aid & CPR Certification.
  • Current Safe Food Handling Certification preferred.
  • Current Gentle Persuasive Approach preferred.
  • Satisfactory vulnerable sector check.
  • Knowledge of infection control and safe lifting practices.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and documentation skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; French language an asset.

Working Conditions

  • Permanent casual relief position.
  • This is elect-to-work, no guaranteed hours; work will be offered on an as needed basis as per schedule requirements.
  • Flexibility in scheduling is required to meet program needs; program schedule includes days and weekends.
  • Work is typically in the facility space.
  • Physically active role (lifting up to 50 lbs., standing, bending, and mobility required)
  • May be exposed to disagreeable people, verbal abuse, people with behavioural or mental health challenges and may be exposed to hazardous cleaning chemicals.
  • Normal hours of work: Shifts will include days and weekends; all shifts include a ½ hour paid meal break.

Reporting and Compliance

Reports to the Adult Day Program Supervisor.

All duties are carried out in accordance with The Salvation Army's Mission, policies, and Ontario Health West regulations.

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $21.83 to $27.29 with a maximum of $32.75.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
