Job Summary
The Meat Wrapper is responsible for packaging, labeling, and displaying meat products in a clean, safe, and efficient manner. This role includes maintaining proper rotation, ensuring quality standards, supporting the Meat Cutter, and delivering excellent customer service. You will help create a positive shopping experience by ensuring products are well-presented, fresh, and compliant with food safety guidelines.
Key Responsibilities & Expectations· Product Preparation & Packaging
o Wrap, package, and label meat products accurately and efficiently.
o Ensure all packages meet company standards for appearance, weight, pricing, and quality.
o Assist in preparing value-added products, such as marinated or seasoned items.
o Follow all food safety and sanitation practices during preparation and packaging.
· Stocking & Merchandising
o Stock shelves and coolers with fresh, properly labeled meat items.
o Rotate products according to standards to maintain freshness and reduce waste.
o Build and maintain visually appealing displays based on company guidelines.
o Monitor for out-of-stock items and communicate needs to the Meat Cutter or Manager.
· Inventory & Backroom Management
o Assist with receiving, storing, and organizing meat products in coolers and freezers.
o Monitor temperatures and report any concerns immediately.
o Check product quality and notify management of any issues, spoilage, or discrepancies.
· Customer Service
o Greet customers in a polite and friendly manner.
o Assist customers with locating products and answering basic questions.
o Direct customers to the Meat Cutter or Manager for custom cuts or special requests.
· Compliance & Safety
o Uphold all company policies, procedures, and operational standards.
o Follow all food safety, sanitation, and safe work practices, including proper handling of raw meat.
o Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area at all times.
o Adhere to Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) standards and report hazards immediately.
· Store Readiness & Maintenance
o Clean and sanitize equipment, tools, counters, and work surfaces regularly.
o Assist with department opening and closing duties, including proper storage of all products.
o Ensure coolers, displays, and backroom areas remain neat, organized, and compliant with health regulations.
· Professionalism & Appearance
o Maintain a professional, clean appearance that meets the store's uniform policy.
o Use required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
· Safety & Security
o Handle knives, slicers, and packaging equipment safely and properly.
o Follow safe lifting procedures to reduce injury and product damage.
o Report any equipment malfunctions or safety concerns to management immediately.
· Team Support & Training
o Assist in training new staff as needed.
o Attend meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.
o Support the Meat Cutter and management with any additional tasks or special projects.
Qualifications
· High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
· Previous experience in a meat department or food handling environment is an asset.
· Strong attention to detail and commitment to food safety.
· Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
· Willingness to learn and follow proper handling and safety procedures.
Working Conditions
· Frequent exposure to cold temperatures in coolers and freezers.
· Long periods of standing, bending, and repetitive motions.
· Regular handling of knives, equipment, and raw meat products.
· Ability to lift and move objects up to 50 lbs, and heavier items with assistance or equipment.
Job Types: Part-time, Permanent
Pay: From $16.50 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 30 per week
