JOB SUMMARY:
Collaborates with the DON to maximize performance and satisfaction of the nursing department. Helps select a team of exceptional caregivers and demonstrate and promote a positive, collaborative, and caring team environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Complies with all local, state, and federal regulations governing long term care.
2. Makes daily rounds and evaluates nursing care rendered to patients, including patient’s physical, mental, and emotional status, and implements any required nursing intervention.
3. Responsible for Orientation for the nursing department, in-service training of all employees and maintaining up-to-date educational attendance records as directed by the DON.
4. Supervises and evaluates performance of nursing personnel, including the assignment and delegation of employees responsible for all nursing care.
5. Actively participates in and promotes the facility QAPI program.
6. Implements and ensures ongoing infection prevention and control activities to facilitate employee adherence to the Infection Prevention and Control program. 7. Practices and ensures compliance with the Center Safety Program, including back safety and fire safety.
8. Demonstrates and ensures customer service standards are being met when interacting with employees, patients, visitors, and public.
9. Works closely with physicians/physician extenders, lab, pharmacy, and therapy services to ensure safe and appropriate care of patients.
10. Promotes and maintains a professional working relationship with nursing personnel, physicians/physician extenders, other department personnel, patients, families, and visitors.
11. Implements all policies and procedures, any new patient care programs, or expansion of existing services.
12. Completes accident/incident reports, investigates, and does appropriate follow through, all abuse/neglect allegations, incidents, family/patient concerns, and associated incidents. *Reports all allegations/incidents to Administrator. *Ensures notification is made to all local, state, and federal agencies as required by statute and Center policy. *Ensures notification is made to physician/physician extender and family.
13. Interviews, hires, and evaluates nursing employees with guidance from DON.
14. Participates in evaluation of nursing employees with unit managers and DON.
15. Maintains employee staffing schedules to ensure twenty-four-hour nursing coverage.
16. Ensures administration of medications according to current standards of nursing practice.
17. Reviews medication records, treatment records, and other nursing documentation for completeness and accuracy utilizing the Dashboard in the EHR.
18. Reviews patient plans of care for appropriate goals and approaches and make revisions based on individual needs.
19. Updates DON on the status of patients regularly.
20. Assume the duties of the DON in his/her absence.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Licensed Registered nurse in good standing by the Virginia Department of Health Professions to practice as a Nurse, with current CPR certification.
2. Prefer previous management or supervisory experience. Excellent clinical, customer service and leadership skills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
2. Prolonged periods of standing, walking, and working.
3. Ability to lift 50 pounds.
4. Ability to lift up to 150 pounds occasionally.
5. Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, off hours
