Position Highlights:
- Position: Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) - Microbiology
- Location: Northwest Community Hospital
- Full Time/Part Time: Full Time
- Hours: Monday-Friday, 7am-3:30pm, rotating weekends and holidays
What you will do:
- Responsible for accurately performs routine and special laboratory tests according to procedure manuals and records their results; evaluates test results, including normal and abnormal results which require notification, documentation, and/or verification.
- Evaluates results for clinical significance, validity and appropriateness. Follows prescribed policy in the reporting and notification of test results.
- Performs and documents calibration, maintenance and repair of instruments and equipment. Recognizes indicators of test and/or instrument malfunction; evaluates and implements appropriate corrections.
- Performs, documents and reviews quality control and quality assurance for improvement according to established protocol. Evaluates quality control results and takes corrective action when indicated.
- Performs internal and external proficiency testing in the same manner as patient samples
- Performs specialty testing in areas including chemistry, hematology, coagulation.
- Supports the disease specific accreditations of an institution by meeting turn- around time goals.
What you will need:
Education: Bachelor's degree/ Associate degree in a clinical laboratory science or medical technology program from and accredited
License: Certification: Current MLS/MT (ASCP) registration or equivalent.
Experience: Minimum of one years of laboratory experience in high/Moderate complexity testing.
Unique or Preferred Skills: Able to solve technical and interdepartmental problems related to the various Laboratory areas. Capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of results, and she/he takes corrective action or notifies appropriate supervisory personnel. Good communication and organizational skills. Ability to work cooperatively with others and inspire their cooperation
