What will you be doing?

Assists the Engineering Manager in overseeing the physical building structure and supervising maintenance and repairs.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervises and assists engineering staff in the maintenance and repair of plumbing, hotel rooms, A/C and heating, ice machine, swimming pools, lighting, kitchen equipment, refrigeration, laundry, emergency generators, switch rooms, etc.
  • Ensures all maintenance and repairs are completed on a timely basis and according to specifications.
  • Assists in maintaining an ongoing preventative maintenance program for the hotel.
  • Assists the Engineering Manager in administering and documenting equipment preventative maintenance and guest room preventative maintenance.
  • Responsible for the safety of the department and the building.
  • Ensures all maintenance and repairs are completed on a timely basis and according to specifications.
  • Respond quickly to guest requests in a friendly manner. Follows up to ensure guest satisfaction.
  • Always provides a professional image through appearance and dress.
  • Follows company policies and procedures and can effectively communicate them to subordinates.
  • Conducts training classes regarding safety, security, department procedures and service guidelines.
  • Ensures the hotel follows all federal, provincial, and municipal laws, including the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), Human Rights Code and Employment Standards Act.
  • Ensures all fire and safety inspections are completed and any discrepancies are corrected.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Some college or advanced vocational training plus two years of experience in general building maintenance and/or construction, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Hotel maintenance and supervisory experience are preferred. Professional certification and license, if required by law.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and general computer skills for documentation, reporting, and communication.
  • Experience using facility management software and the ability to maintain electronic records.
  • This job requires the ability to perform the following:
  • Carrying, lifting, pushing and/or pulling items weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Frequently standing up and moving about the facility
  • Frequently handling objects and equipment to maintain the facility.
  • Frequently bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, and crawling

  • Other:

  • Communication skills utilize a significant amount of time when interacting with the other supervisors, hotel staff and hotel guests.
  • Reading and writing abilities are utilized to document or record all tasks completed, to order supplies, to receive their instructions for the day and/or to read equipment repair manuals.
  • Mathematical skills, including basic math, budgeting, profit/loss concepts, percentages, and variances, are utilized frequently.
  • Problem-solving, reasoning, motivating, organizational and training abilities are often used.
  • May be required to work nights, weekends, and/or holidays.
