Mill Operations Supervisor
Reporting to the Mill General Foreman, the Mill Operations Supervisor will perform many duties throughout the Mill's working environment while maintaining a high sense of ethics, confidentiality, and compliance with all security measures. They will provide process operator coverage when required to fill voids in the circuit's daily operations. They will assist the mill management team to fulfill compliance with annual refresher training and assist with training new and current employees as required. They are ultimately responsible for ensuring the safe and effective operation of the milling processes. They must be a committed team player with a strong knowledge of and dedication to safety, production methods and equipment care. Other duties will be assigned as per operational needs.
The list of duties and responsibilities below is not exclusive or exhaustive, and the employee will be required to undertake such duties as may reasonably be expected within the scope of the position. All employees are required to be professional, cooperative, and flexible in line with the requirements of the position.
Operational / Technical Execution:
- Implementation of standards.
- Plant testing programs and operational parameters.
- Provide technical support and direction as well as leadership and technical guidance to the plant operators and members of the Mill team.
- Communicate regularly with all operators, both individually and as a group, to ensure consistent operation among crews.
- Ensure that operators are adequately trained, equipped, and motivated, so that production objectives can be accomplished in a safe, timely and cost-effective manner.
- Provide input into the development of monthly plans for the section.
- Apt to safely operate all aspects of mill process (loader, crushing, grinding, leaching and recovery circuits)
- Provide data for daily execution report (actual vs plan) including throughput, process availability, feed grade, recovery rate, metal production.
- Monitor control screens, comparing actuals to targets / plans and solving / reporting variances.
- Perform daily system, equipment, and work area inspections to identify, minimize, and correct safety hazards, conduct quality checks, and ensure that equipment is properly maintained.
- Annual refresher training for staff in the milling operation process which covers all positions within the mill.
- Assist in the creation and updating of standard operating procedures (SOP's)
- Assist with all training documentation and upkeep of training files.
- Coverage, when necessary, on the operating circuits throughout the milling process when needed.
General Administration and Controls
- Conduct and lead staff meetings as required.
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
- Always protect the safety and well-being of yourself and your co-workers.
- Follow all Company specific safety protocols and Occupational Health & Safety policies and procedures.
- Maintain full responsibility for complying to all HSE and regulatory aspects relating to activities carried out in line with the requirements of this position.
- Use skills, knowledge, and experience in the field to contribute towards continuous improvement.
- Conduct pre-operational and post-operational safety inspections on equipment, and complete daily equipment reports.
- Conduct employee performance reviews based on job descriptions to determine competency, knowledge, and contribution of the operators.
- Perform routine reporting and administrative duties as required such as employees time sheets for payroll, conducting daily safety meetings with relevant to job material, etc.
- Perform repetitive tasks, safely climb, and access equipment, as well as lift heavy objects up to 50lb.
Qualifications and Skills Requirement:
- Legal to work within Canada.
- Minimum of years' experience in milling operations related to gold plant circuits.
- Previous supervisory experience would be considered an asset.
- Demonstrate current technical knowledge related to gold circuits.
- Ability to identify, analyze and resolve problems.
- Self-starter with a solid technical background and proven troubleshooting skills.
- High level of computer and software literacy as well as excellent leadership, interpersonal and communication skills.
- A solid understanding of environmental standards, mill safety requirements
- Good safety knowledge and understanding with the ability to recognize, reduce or eliminate hazards and situations that may cause problems.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational and presentation skills.
- The ability to work positively with a team of professional and technical people in a changing, creative, and energetic environment.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
