Position Overview

Responsible for ensuring linear infrastructure and municipal services installations conform to City of Vaughan standards. Conducts contract administration including administering the provisions of agreements, specifications and capital projects. Responds to complaints, and matters stemming from municipal servicing projects and agreements. Acts as City representative in accordance with City policy when infractions to Provincial Health and Safety legislation are observed. Reviews drawings, plans etc. for work progress/completion, retains external contractors as necessary; utilizes database for input/retrieval of information and performs various inventory count on City property as required. Focuses on residential, industrial, commercial and institutional service connection installations, requiring a high level of proficiency in estimating, observing, inspecting, and reporting on installation of storm, sanitary and water services. Administers the construction provisions of service connection contracts. Prepares quotes, reviews, tracks and inspects Service Connection installation practices in the field and prepares and maintains a database and takes corrective action for any deficiencies.

Qualifications and Experience


• Three (3) year Community College Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, or suitable equivalent.


• Holds a Certified Engineering Technician (C.E.T) designation.


• Successful completion of suitable inspection courses in road and sewer inspection (Ministry of Transportation and/or Ministry of Environment type courses).


• Minimum of four (4) years' related municipal services engineering inspection experience.


• Ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public, staff, consultants, contractors, etc.


• "Competent" by having completed the City of Vaughan or Ministry of Environment course on confined space entry including artificial resuscitation and the use of breathing apparatus.


• "Competent" worker as defined in the Health and Safety Act and possess a working knowledge of provincial health and safety legislation for construction projects.


• Possess a working knowledge of Ministry of Transportation Traffic Control Manual, City of Vaughan policies and procedures, and good construction practice.


• Proficient in utilizing Microsoft Office Suite, i.e. Word, Excel, etc. and e-mail software applications.


• Knowledge of and demonstrated ability in the City's core competencies.


• Possess a valid Ontario 'G' driver's license, in good standing.

Working Conditions:


• Availability to work outside normal business hours, as required.


• Availability to work both in the office and out in the field, as required.
