Position Summary
Provide a variety of property tax consulting services to both new and existing clients. Assist in building a practice that includes consultation on various property tax issues for commercial and light industrial properties. Help DMA continue to build leading property tax consulting services in Western Canada.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Assist in commercial property portfolio reviews ranging from low-liability retail properties up to complex, industrial type properties throughout Western Canada
Update, monitor, and maintain internal web-based Property Tax application containing clients' property tax data
Compute estimation of property values, considering such factors as depreciation, replacement costs, value comparisons of similar properties, and income potential
Assist in preparation of reports of findings to clients
Attend hearings on behalf of clients when required
Conduct inspections of facilities and be involved in valuation negotiations with assessment jurisdictions and revaluation firms acting on behalf of the local government
Research trends and historical data in the commercial real estate market
Research sales of commercial/industrial real estate using electronic resources and field research
Gather assessment information from assessing jurisdictions
Network and develop relationships with Senior Tax Consultants and Tax Managers across DMA to identify opportunities and share best practices
Non-Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provide support to Sr. Tax Consultant, Tax Managers, and Directors
Perform other duties as assigned
Education and Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field desired
1-3 years' experience working in an Assessment/Appraisal position or other relevant experience
Good verbal and written communication skills
Excellent time management skills
Self-motivated, ability to demonstrate initiative
Ability to work in a team and independently
Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with DMA business development and sales personnel, clients, and Municipal assessment and tax staff
Some overnight travel may be required
