WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:
The Charge Medical Laboratory Technologist - Core oversees the day-to-day activities of the Core Laboratory (focused on Point of Care and Clinical Chemistry), including responsibility for staffing, work schedules, task assignment, training, evaluation of new methods, quality control and quality assurance.
This role is responsible for providing technological skills required to perform and report laboratory procedures in the areas of Hematology, Point of Care, Clinical Chemistry, and Transfusion Medicine through analysis, and examination of specimens. This includes being accountable for accurate results, writing procedures /policies, and recognizing interdependency of tests, physiology and other conditions that affect test results. This role will collaborate in the development of the laboratory's strategic functional and operational plans.
In addition to serving as a positive role model and mentor, the Charge Medical Laboratory Technologist's responsibilities include and are not limited to: providing technical resource to staff, developing/maintaining policies and standard operating procedures, and the validation and assessment of procedures and equipment.
The Laboratory Charge Technologist is also responsible and accountable for the technical component of all laboratory discipline(s), ensuring satisfactory turnaround times.
WHAT YOU MUST HAVE:
- Current registration in good standing with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO)
- Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology
- Minimum of six (6) years previous clinical laboratory experience
- Knowledge of Accreditation Canada Diagnostics laboratory accreditation requirements and experience with the accreditation process
- Strong team building and demonstrated leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and teach others during times of change and shifting priorities
- Proven time management, prioritization, organization and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated knowledge, understanding of, and ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders, both within and outside the hospital
- Ability to work independently and make sound judgments involving technical and confidential material
- Demonstrated excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook and Cerner LIS/Patient Information Systems
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development
- Highly developed evidence-based critical thinking skills with an innovative approach to analyzing and solving problems, decision making, planning and evaluation skills
- Effective communication (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills with ability to positively influence others and develop trusting internal and external relationships
- Physical ability to carry out the essential duties of the position
- Ability to regularly attend work in accordance with the Attendance Support Program
- Acceptable performance record that is aligned with STEGH values and code of conduct
WHAT WE PREFER YOU TO HAVE:
- Certificate/Diploma in Quality Management from a recognized institution
- Hospital environment experience
- Three (3) years supervisory experience or progressive leadership experience within the laboratory
- Key operator or advanced training on laboratory equipment
- Demonstrated training, experience and utilization of LEAN methodologies for process improvement
HOURS:
The successful candidate must be available to work all tours applicable to the department. In addition, this position must be flexible to occasional changes in hours, when required to meet the operational needs of the department and be able to commit to the non-availability standards outlined in the Collective Agreement.
