We invite online applications from our sworn members for one (1) position as a Drug & Firearm Enforcement Unit Investigator.
PURPOSE OF POSITION
Under the direction of the NCO i/c Drug & Firearm Enforcement Unit, will increase community safety and wellbeing by conducting investigations, arresting offenders and preparing cases for court in relation to drug and gang activity, property crime, firearm offences, and other incidents as assigned.
Shall, in the performance of duties, respect and protect human dignity and maintain and uphold the human rights of all persons.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work in partnership with the Criminal Intelligence Unit and Community Patrol Section to identify and dismantle criminal networks having an impact on the community
- Conduct investigations, arrest offenders and prepare cases for court in relation to criminal offences, and other incidents as assigned
- Support members from the Community Patrol Section through partnerships and training opportunities
- Follow up on complex investigations, including those associated with property crime, drug trafficking, gang activity, and weapon possession
- Assist members of the Criminal Investigation Section with investigations into serious violent crime
- Cultivate and handle confidential informants in accordance with Brantford Police Service policy
- Operate a covert police vehicle and conduct mobile and static surveillance
- Identify at risk youth and participate in the education and mentorship of such individuals
- Attend relevant training opportunities
- Work as part of a team in relation to investigations
- Flexibility in transitioning to directed enforcement in uniform as assigned, with an aim to deter, disrupt, and suppress criminal activities
- Research, prepare and present reports pertaining to specific Service-related issues
- Be accountable to supervision
- Carry out duties in accordance with the applicable provisions of the Community Safety and Policing Act, 2019
- Thorough understanding of relevant legislation, regulations, Policy & Procedures as it pertains to duties performed
- The ability to work flexible hours including nights, weekends and statutory holidays
- Perform other duties required of a sworn Police Officer as assigned

Knowledge
- Working knowledge of all pertinent legislation and all related in-house investigative policy and procedures
- Working knowledge of criminal investigative procedures related to Major Case Management and the Criminal Investigations Management and Procedures Plan
- Working knowledge of the organizational structure, routine orders, policy and procedures, CALEA and practices within the service as it pertains to duties performed

- Computer literate in C.A.D., RMS, Niche, electronic notebooks, Confidential Informant Management System (CIMS), Microsoft Word
