AI Research/Machine Learning Engineer - Agent Products

Responsibilities Design a production and training system that enables an autonomous LLM-powered agent to utilize various tools across web browsing, retrieval, code execution, and more to answer open-ended user prompts with high-quality responses and citations. Collaborate with the Core Research & Post-Training Team to enhance the expansion, reformulation, querying, and summarization capabilities of our models against Perplexity’s retrieval index. Improve the speed and quality of our codebase and engineering processes to ensure consistent delivery of an excellent product experience. Work with Perplexity GTM leaders and various stakeholders (e.g., Motorola, TripAdvisor) to develop integrated product solutions across research verticals like Travel and Retail. Qualifications Proven research experience with large-scale LLMs and Deep Learning systems. Strong Post-Training skills, including familiarity with supervised and reinforcement learning techniques, reward formulation, and evaluation. Good consumer product intuition for Agent products, with a willingness to unblock oneself at any level of the stack and take ownership of the end-user experience. Ability to make tradeoffs in developing end-to-end agents, including training techniques, model architecture, and prompting. Minimum of 5 years

of relevant deep learning research experience. The cash compensation range for this role is $200,000 - $280,000.
