The Role As Direct Mail Sales Director, you’ll lead, manage, and develop our Direct Mail Sales Team, driving both new business channel success. You’ll own the UK Mail Direct Mail sales strategy, deliver ambitious growth targets, and build strong relationships with major postal users and industry partners. This is a high-impact leadership role where you’ll shape the future of UK Mail’s Marketing Mail channel and sales efforts.
What You’ll Do
Develop, own, and deliver the UK Mail sales strategy , covering both direct sales and channel development through mailing houses, print‑management companies, and other postal industry third parties.
Lead, motivate, and performance‑manage
the new business sales team to achieve annual new business targets and deliver profitable growth.
Drive retention and growth within existing accounts through effective leadership of the account management team.
Develop sophisticated commercial proposals, requiring a detailed understanding of contract profitability and commercial risk.
Negotiate multi‑year, multi‑million‑pound contracts with the UK’s largest postal users.
Own and refine sales processes to enable agility while maintaining strong commercial controls.
Lead the tender response process, ensuring high success rates through compelling, commercially attractive propositions for both new and existing customers.
Train and develop the sales team to remain a high‑performance function.
Gather and share competitor intelligence to refine our commercial offering and maximise success.
Drive efficiencies through proactive account management to increase profitability without compromising service.
Liaise with operations to resolve customer service escalations and ensure CRM tools are fully deployed and compliant.
What We’re Looking For
Mailing‑house experience is essential.
Proven experience developing and winning multi‑million‑pound business services or logistics proposals.
Strong leadership skills with a track record of building high‑performance sales teams.
Expertise in commercial negotiation and proposal development.
Excellent analytical, written, and presentation skills.
Knowledge of mail services essential.
