Location: Atlanta, GA – Hybrid
Compensation: $150,000 - $175,000
The Principal Salesforce Engineer serves as a senior technical leader responsible for the architecture, design, development, and delivery of Salesforce solutions across the enterprise. This role drives complex engineering initiatives, ensures solution integrity across integrated systems, and provides strategic guidance to both technical teams and business stakeholders. The Principal Engineer plays a critical role in shaping the Salesforce roadmap, advancing platform capabilities, and promoting engineering excellence throughout the organization.
The ideal candidate possesses deep expertise across the Salesforce ecosystem—including declarative configuration, custom development, integration patterns, and multi-org strategies—along with the ability to lead teams, mentor talent, and influence cross-functional decision-making. This position requires strong communication skills, a commitment to high-quality engineering practices, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, enterprise environment.
Minimum Requirements
3+ years of experience partnering with vendors and external technology providers
3+ years supporting strategic planning, roadmap development, and solution design
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Project or similar project management tools; solid project management skills
Exceptional communication abilities, with the capability to engage both technical and business audiences
Strong debugging, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities
2+ years leading or mentoring junior engineering team members
Highly self-motivated and results-oriented, with the ability to work independently
5+ years of experience using SharePoint for documentation and collaboration
5+ years hands-on experience with IT ticketing systems (Quality Center, ServiceNow, JIRA)
3+ years working within both Agile and Waterfall SDLC methodologies
3+ years using Jira, Bitbucket, Confluence, or comparable Agile toolsets
5+ years experience collaborating with geographically distributed teams
5+ years of experience working both independently and in a collaborative, team-oriented environment
Salesforce Expertise Requirements
7+ years designing, developing, supporting, and delivering enterprise Salesforce solutions on the Salesforce.com/Force.com platform
Extensive understanding of the Salesforce platform, including Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, Integrations, Analytics, Communities, and the Lightning Platform
7+ years of declarative configuration experience (territory management, security controls, workflows, approval processes, validation rules, Process Builder, Flow, role hierarchy)
7+ years custom development experience using Apex, Visualforce, SOQL, SOSL
2+ years development experience with Lightning Web Components (LWC) and Aura Components
7+ years experience with Salesforce code and data management tools (VS Code, Data Loader, Workbench, GitHub, Bitbucket, Developer Console)
7+ years implementing and supporting AppExchange solutions (e.g., FinancialForce PSA, Revenue Recognition & Forecasting)
7+ years documenting business processes, wireframes, system flow diagrams, and future-state recommendations
5+ years integrating Salesforce with external systems (SAP, Workday, ServiceNow, JIRA), including REST/SOAP APIs, Platform Events, Outbound Messaging, Change Data Capture, and 3rd-party ETL tools (e.g., MuleSoft)
7+ years experience supporting single-org enterprise deployments and multi-org consolidation initiatives
Education Requirements
Bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline; or equivalent work experience
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
Provide technical leadership and direction to a team of Salesforce engineers
Serve as a subject-matter expert on system architecture, platform capabilities, integrations, and dependencies
Estimate, prioritize, and execute work effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
Define scalable application architecture and determine optimal technical designs
Develop detailed technical specifications and lead development efforts from design through delivery
Configure, develop, and unit-test assigned components following established SDLC and engineering standards
Conduct code reviews to ensure adherence to best practices and platform governance
Troubleshoot and resolve moderately to highly complex issues across the Salesforce ecosystem
Implement changes while ensuring system stability and preventing regression issues
Stay current on Salesforce platform advancements and contribute process or technology improvements
Mentor team members and facilitate knowledge-sharing across the engineering organization
Influence and negotiate priorities, scope, and timelines with business partners
Lead and support production operations, including incident resolution and end-user support
Ensure quality and completeness of all technical deliverables
Participate in planning, demand management, and project estimation activities with assigned business units
Assist with organizing and managing projects to ensure SDLC activities are completed with high quality and within timeline
Serve as a resident expert for assigned Salesforce components or solutions
Collaborate with business stakeholders to define and develop enterprise-level solutions
Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability as business needs evolve
