**Job Summary:**
- full-time 32-40 hours/week
- 4 days/week (subject to change)
- 5:00 am- 1:30 pm (with 30min lunch)
*hours may differ slightly depending on the arrival time of first patient of the day---earliest arrival would be 4:30am*
JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Someone who is reliable, has a great work ethic, and a cooperative work attitude toward peers, management, patients, visitors, and surgeons.
- This person must be an early morning riser, a multi-tasker, a team player, have a positive, friendly, and professional attitude with great phone etiquette to greet our patients and their family members in person and on the phone.
- This person must support the facility's ideology, mission, goals, and objectives.
- This person must follow the facility's standards for ethical business conduct.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- High School diploma
- General business office or hospital/ASC/Medical office insurance billing experience preferred
- Medical terminology preferred
- Ability to communicate and work well with people
- Strong phone etiquette
- Strong computer skills, keyboarding, email etiquette, and knowledge of ten key required
- BLS required within 30 days employment if not already certified
- Strong ethical and moral character

- Little or no supervision needed to accomplish task
RESPONSIBILITIES:
**Opening the surgery center before the first patient arrives (15 min before first patient arrival time). This can be as early as 4:30 am for a 4:45 am patient arrival time.**
Communication
a) Communicates effectively and professionally with patients, visitors, physicians, and coworkers
b) Interacts with others in a positive, respectful, and considerate manner
Financial practices
a) Uses facility resources appropriately and avoids wasteful practices
b) Reports wasteful practices
c) Analyzes work area and makes recommendations for potential cost-effective improvements
Compliance program
a) Contributes to the progress and development of the organization's adopted compliance program
b) Performs according to established compliance policies and procedures
Safety/risk-management program
a) Adheres to safety policies and procedures in performing job duties and responsibilities
b) Maintains responsibility for safe work area by reporting to safety officer or designee observed or suspected safety violations, hazards, and policy/procedure noncompliance
c) Responds to emergency situations with competence and composure
d) Reports observed or suspected medical emergencies, notifies appropriate personnel, and responds appropriately
e) Identifies facility emergency situations (e.g., fire, disaster) and notifies appropriate personnel and external agencies
Professional competence
a) Participates in continuing education and other learning experiences
b) Shares knowledge gained in continuing education with staff
c) Maintains membership in relevant professional organizations
d) Seeks new learning experiences by accepting challenging opportunities and responsibilities

Receptionist duties
a) Serves as telephone operator for facility; routes incoming calls correctly and takes accurate messages when unable to connect caller to requested party
b) Receives and distributes all mail and special deliveries
c) Greets patients and provides necessary paperwork for completion
d) Notifies appropriate nursing staff that patient is present after patient has completed paperwork
e) Keeps track of patient's family, patient's driver, etc.
f) Ensures that pharmaceutical/equipment representatives have appropriate identification and do not interfere with patient care or confidentiality
g) Prints out all labels, forms, etc., for patient charts and assembles charts before appointment
h) Calls appropriate agencies for assistance in case of emergency
i) Performs other miscellaneous office/clerical duties as needed
j) Cross train to other job roles within the business office as needed and within scope of competency
Billing duties
a) Issues appropriate duplicate receipts when receiving payments by cash or check directly from patients
b) Verifies credit cards if used and issues appropriate duplicate receipts
c) Balances log to cash/checks/credit card payments
d) Balances deposit log to payments-received log less credit card payments
e) Responsible for incoming cash, checks, and credit card receipts until balanced and delivered to business office manager
**Other duties may be assigned by the immediate manager/supervisor and/or Administrator**
