Mackinac Straits Health System is recruiting a Full Time Registered Nurse- PACU to join our surgical team. This position is responsible for assessing the needs of each patient during a surgical procedure, and ensures that policies and procedures are met and maintains patient safety. Outlines individual care plans, implements, evaluates and documents care of peri-operative patient. Provides leadership to the OR team, communicates with patient and family, OR team and manager and ancillary departments. Participates in staff development through preceptorship and continuing education. Cross training may be required within all areas of surgery including but not limited to PAT, Pre-Op phases 1 and 2, and Post Op.. Assists anesthesia and performs other duties as assigned.
*PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES*:
· Assesses the needs of the surgical patient and develops a plan of care specific for that patient. Implements and evaluates the plan of care during the procedure, and makes necessary adjustments keeping patient safety a priority.
· Supervises activity in room. Anticipates and coordinates any schedule changes for the room. Assembles equipment and supplies. Assists anesthesia as necessary. Monitors sterile field.
· Communicates with patient, family, physician, OR team and manager, and ancillary departments.
· Participates in staff development by attending in-services and preceptorships.
· Demonstrates a positive, courteous and helpful attitude toward patient, visitors, physicians and co-workers. Demonstrates ability to fill varying roles as necessary.
· Provides for age specific needs of the population served according to department standards and policies/procedures as evidenced by observation, documentation and peer feedback for the following:
*Qualifications:*
* Knowledge of nursing technique as normally acquired through completion of an Associate's Degree in Nursing and culminating in licensure in the State of Michigan.
* *Minimum 1-2 years experience in a surgery setting -must have critical care experience to be considered*
* Demonstrated knowledge base of EMR.
* Leadership skills needed to effectively direct a group.
* BLS and ACLS certifications required.
* Interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups and interact with people at all levels to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear and understandable manner.
Job Type: Temporary
Pay: From $38.59 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
