Sterling Area Health Center (SAHC) is a Joint Commission-accredited, Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) with a deep commitment to our community. We have multiple clinics located throughout *Arenac, Ogemaw, Iosco, and Northern Bay counties* in Michigan. For over 40 years, we have provided high-quality, comprehensive primary care, dental, and behavioral health services to the entire community, with a special emphasis on the medically underserved. *Position Summary*
SAHC is seeking a dynamic and experienced Medical Director to guide our dedicated clinical team into its next chapter following the retirement of our long-standing director. This is a vital leadership position that blends direct patient care with administrative responsibilities, strategic planning, and provider education. The ideal candidate will be a passionate advocate for community health, a *servant leader* committed to our FQHC mission, and a hands-on leader who can inspire, mentor, and train our providers in delivering exceptional, coordinated, team-based care across our service area.
*Key Responsibilities*
* *Clinical Leadership & Patient Care (approx. 60% of time):*
* Provide direct primary care services to a diverse patient panel, maintaining an active clinical practice.
* Oversee clinical quality and care coordination across primary care and behavioral health departments within our integrated care model.
* Serve as a role model for clinical excellence and compassionate, patient-centered care.
* *Administrative & Strategic Responsibilities (approx. 40% of time):*
* Develop, implement, and monitor clinical policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all FQHC, Joint Commission, and other regulatory standards.
* Drive quality improvement initiatives and strategic planning efforts to enhance patient outcomes and operational efficiency.
* Foster positive provider relations and a culture of teamwork and open communication among a diverse group of physicians and advanced practitioners.
* Collaborate closely with the Chief Executive Officer and other directors to ensure integrated, holistic patient care delivery across all clinic locations.
* *Provider Education & Development:*
* Lead the training and competency assessment of all clinical providers.
* Educate providers on the proper and efficient use of Electronic Health Records (EHR) to optimize workflows and documentation.
*Qualifications*
* *Required:*
* Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited institution.
* Board Certification in a primary care related field (e.g., Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics).
* Active, unencumbered Michigan medical license (or eligible to obtain one).
* Minimum of 4-6 years of progressive experience in leadership roles within a healthcare setting (e.g., Medical Director, Assistant Medical Director, or practice ownership/management).
* *Highly Desired:*
* *Prior experience working within a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) is essential.*
* Proven experience in provider education and training on Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems.
* Experience with quality improvement methodologies and clinical outcomes reporting (e.g., UDS data).
