Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and energetic Recreation Assistant to join our team in providing engaging activities and social opportunities for residents in a senior living community. The ideal candidate will have experience working with seniors, individuals with disabilities, or in caregiving roles, and possess excellent communication skills. This role is vital in enhancing residents' quality of life through meaningful recreation and social engagement.

Duties

  • Plan, organize, and facilitate a variety of recreational activities tailored to residents' interests and abilities, in the physical, emotional, cognitive, social and spiritual domains.
  • Assist residents during activities to ensure safety and participation, especially those with dementia and/or mobility challenges
  • Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment that encourages social interaction among residents
  • Collaborate with staff and caregivers to coordinate activity schedules and address individual needs
  • Maintain activity supplies and ensure all equipment is safe and well-maintained
  • Document resident participation and provide feedback to the care team regarding residents' engagement levels and preferences
  • Support residents with disabilities or special needs during recreational activities, ensuring accessibility and comfort
  • Participate in monthly department meetings and/or committees as required
  • Plan, organize and implement resident bus outings, including driving the outing bus

Requirements

  • Experience working in assisted living, or senior care settings preferred
  • Diploma in Recreation Therapy, Therapy Assistant or related fields
  • Valid CPR & First Aid certificate
  • Valid Class 4 license or willingness to obtain
  • Knowledge of dementia care, caregiving practices, and working with people with disabilities is highly desirable
  • Strong communication skills to effectively interact with residents, families, and staff
  • Compassionate attitude with a genuine interest in enhancing the well-being of seniors
  • Ability to plan engaging activities that promote physical, mental, and emotional health
  • Prior experience in recreation is a plus but not mandatory; training will be provided as needed
  • Must be patient, adaptable, and able to work collaboratively within a team environment

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $23.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
