About

Under general supervision of the Payroll Operations Analyst, the Payroll Processing Clerk is responsible for entering and verifying various payroll specification data required to control and initiate payroll processing for all Payroll Groups.

As Payroll Processing Clerk, you will:

  • Process all Payrolls in accordance with statutory legislation.
  • Assist with Employee Self-Service Timekeeping by responding to inquiries in a timely fashion.
  • Run various queries/reports used to audit and verify pay data.
  • Perform other duties consistent with the classification.

Your education and qualifications include:

  • High school graduation supplemented by additional courses in business and office procedures/office automation. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner designation is preferred.

  • Two years of experience working in a payroll environment.

  • Experience using the PeopleSoft HR module including Base HR and Time & Labour Modules, or similar application.

  • Experience performing customer service functions.

  • Excellent customer service skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Excellent organizational skills.

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office including Word (basic), Excel, and Outlook.

  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with employees, civic departments, and external stakeholders.

  • Ability to deal with stressful situations and irate employees with tact and diplomacy.

  • Ability to plan, organize, and promote high volume work production with minimal supervision to ensure deadlines are met.

  • Ability to work under considerable pressure and ensure adherence to strict processing deadlines.

  • Ability to maintain accuracy with a high degree of attention to detail.

  • Ability to create and maintain accurate, organized records and files.

  • Ability to carry out complex calculations.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to handle confidential matters discretely in a professional manner.

  • Knowledge of the relevant Collective Agreements as they relate to the payroll function.

  • Experience using PeopleSoft preferable.

  • IMPORTANT: Applicants who have been educated outside of Canada must have education which is comparable to the minimum qualification in Canada. Applicants submitting foreign credentials require an official academic assessment report issued by a recognized Canadian assessment service at application.
