Job Description

As an Associate, Performance, you will play a pivotal role in how CPP Investments measures, monitors, and communicates performance insights of one of the world's largest and most sophisticated institutional investors. Working closely with investment professionals, data experts, and senior management, you will ensure that performance and benchmark returns are calculated accurately and consistently, in full alignment with CPP Investments' policies and standards. This role blends analytical precision with strategic insight — ideal for a detail-oriented professional who can transform complex performance data into clear, actionable information for decision-makers across the organization.

Team Description

The Performance team plays an important role at CPP Investments.  We deliver trusted, data-driven insights that measure and explain the Fund's investment performance across all asset classes and investment strategies. Our team ensures transparency, accuracy, and accountability by calculating investment and benchmark returns, and attribution metrics that guide investment decisions and strategic planning. Through partnership with investment and core service teams, we help CPP Investments to achieve stronger results.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Measure and monitor investment performance returns, benchmark returns, and performance attribution across asset classes, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and insight.
  • Prepare and analyze performance reports for investment groups and Management; investigate discrepancies and resolve issues promptly.
  • Develop and automate control checks to ensure the accuracy and completeness of benchmark and attribution calculations.
  • Create and execute User Acceptance Testing (UAT) plans for performance system upgrades and process improvements.
  • Contribute to the development of new performance metrics that inform strategic decision-making.
  • Act as a trusted Subject Matter Expert in performance measurement on cross-functional initiatives.
  • Lead small-scale projects, including stakeholder engagement, planning, and progress reporting.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships across departments within CPP Investments.
Qualifications
  • Education: Undergraduate degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Computer Science, or Applied Mathematics.
  • Experience: Minimum 5+ years of relevant performance measurement industry experience.
  • Strong understanding of performance measurement and attribution methodologies (e.g., time-weighted vs. dollar-weighted returns, equity, multi-currency, and fixed-income attributions).
  • Completion of or progress toward a professional designation (CFA, CIPM, or FRM) is preferred.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Advanced proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, Access, Visio, PowerPoint).
    • Experience with Python and SQL is an asset.
    • Familiarity with SimCorp Dimension is an asset.
  • Other Core Competencies:
