PURPOSE OF POSITION:
This position is responsible for underwriting moderate to large Cash Crop and Livestock Farming operations in accordance with company policies and procedures, in order to contribute to a growing portfolio of profitable business. This includes reviewing and pricing of new policy applications, endorsements and renewals and then applying underwriting methodology to evaluate the degree of risk involved, and suggest recommendations, endorsement or rejection of the application. Successful candidates will demonstrate proficient farm and agri-business knowledge and provide a high level of customer service to our broker network.
KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS:
- Manage requests for quotes, renewals and endorsements
- Apply effective pricing and underwriting practices
- Cultivate relationships with brokers, including on-site visits with brokers and/or policy holders to assess risk and underwriting criteria
- Analyze portfolio and apply effective underwriting practices to provide recommendations in order to minimize risk and maximize profitability
- Maintain knowledge of current market and industry trends and pricing levels
- Participate in training and development opportunities
- Participate in insurance industry and broker events
- Create operational efficiencies while maintaining high underwriting quality standards
- Work cross-functionally with stakeholders both internally and externally
QUALIFICATION AND SKILLS:
- Degree in business, CIP designation or working towards and/or equivalent qualification is preferred
- Minimum 1-3 years underwriting experience
- Experience in all aspects of farm underwriting and risk assessment
- Experience in commercial property and casualty underwriting considered an asset
- Experience as a broker is considered an asset
- Proven teamwork and collaboration skills
- Motivated and proactive self-starter
- Strong written and oral communication and English language skills
- High level of organization and attention to detail
- Planning, analysis and problem-solving skills
- Effective negotiating, judgement and decision-making skills
- Proficient computer skills including the Microsoft Office program suite

- Highly customer service oriented
