Data Platform Developer

About the Role

As an Intermediate Data Platform Developer at Fleetworthy, you will help build and operate our modern data platform that enables a Data Mesh architecture. Your focus will be on creating and improving tools for deployment and automation, empowering value stream teams to deliver high-quality data products.

This is a hybrid role combining data engineering with infrastructure and DevOps practices, where you'll design pipelines, automate platform components, and support teams in applying best practices. You'll be part of a geographically distributed remote team in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain platform tools for deployment and automation of data products.
• Partner with value stream teams to adopt Data Mesh principles, enabling them to own and scale their data products.
• Design and optimize ingestion and transformation pipelines and jobs using SQL, Python, and PySpark.
• Apply infrastructure-as-code (e.g., Terraform) to automate platform provisioning.
• Contribute to and improve CI/CD workflows for data pipelines and platform services.
• Ensure our data platform is reliable and efficient at scale.
• Collaborate across our distributed team to continuously improve platform reliability, performance, and cost-effectiveness.

Core Skills

• Knowledge of SQL, Python, and PySpark in data-intensive environments.
• Understanding of ETL concepts, Medallion Architecture, data modeling, and data warehousing.
• Strong communication skills to work effectively in a remote, distributed team.

Nice to Have / Growth Areas

• Experience with cloud data platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
• Exposure to event streaming (Kafka, Kinesis, etc.).
• Familiarity with observability and monitoring.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines.
• Familiarity with infrastructure automation (Terraform or similar).
• Interest in scaling Data Mesh practices across large organizations.
