The Role

We are seeking a Product Owner who can help shape the advanced product platform used to create solutions for Police, Fire, and EMS. The Product Owner for AI Platform Tooling will help to lead the initiative to define and deliver our AI enablement and tooling strategy across the organization. This role will focus on building the standards, tools, and governance frameworks that empower the rest of the organization to adopt AI-driven development practices efficiently and responsibly. You will serve as the key liaison between the software development team and the Product Manager. This role is responsible for ensuring that product teams are equipped with best practices in using AI for efficiency throughout the Software Development Lifecyle (SDLC). You will manage a backlog of initiatives, define user stories, measure AI adoption progress, and use AI to enhance Agile processes enabling teams to create high-quality software products that align with Versaterm's strategic goals.

What You Do Collaboration with Product Manager:
  • Work closely with the Product Manager to understand the product vision, goals, and high-level roadmap.
  • Translate the product strategy into actionable tasks for the development team.
  • Provide feedback on feasibility, timelines, and technical considerations to support product planning.
  • Partner with the Product Manager to drive the successful delivery of complex software initiatives from concept to launch while supporting continuous improvement on existing products.
Backlog Management:
  • Own and manage the product backlog, ensuring items are well-defined, estimated, and prioritized.
  • Create detailed user stories and acceptance criteria based on stakeholder and user needs.
  • Continuously refine and update the backlog based on team feedback, changing priorities, and user insights.
Development Team Support:
  • Act as the primary point of contact for development teams, clarifying requirements, priorities, and expected outcomes.
  • Support Agile processes by facilitating sprint planning, refinement, and review sessions.
  • Collaborate with development teams to balance feature delivery with technical debt remediation.
Stakeholder Alignment:
  • Collaborate with the Product Manager, Business Analysts, Designers, and other stakeholders to gather input, define priorities, and align priorities.
  • Represent the voice of the customer to the development team and ensure features deliver maximum value to end-users.
Quality Assurance:
  • Review completed work to ensure it meets defined acceptance criteria and is aligned with the product vision.
  • Partner with QA and testing teams to validate that deliverables meet quality standards.
Continuous Improvement:
  • Analyze and evaluate team processes, making recommendations for efficiency improvements.
  • Use product metrics and team feedback to refine the backlog and adjust priorities.
What You Bring Required Qualifications:
  • Degree in Computer Science, Business, or related field. Advanced degree or relevant certifications (e.g., CSPO, SAFe PO) are a plus.
  • Experience defining and implementing AI tooling and frameworks to enhance development workflows and ensure responsible adoption across teams.
  • Understanding of emerging AI architectures and frameworks, including Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), Model Context Protocol (MCP), and agentic AI systems.
  • A minimum of 3–5 years of experience as a Product Owner or in a similar role within software development, driving delivery for a defined product area.
  • Strong understanding of Agile frameworks, particularly Scrum or Kanban.
  • Proficiency in writing user stories, acceptance criteria, and maintaining product backlog.
  • Hands-on experience with tools like JIRA, Confluence, or similar.
  • Technical background or hands-on experience with software development processes.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical requirements to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Asset Qualifications:
  • Experience with "Aha" Product Management software
  • Familiarity with software engineering concepts such as APIs, databases, and cloud platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to leverage AI technologies to enhance product capabilities or operational efficiency.
  • Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) or equivalent certification.
  • Experience with Public Safety software such as Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) or Records Management Systems (RMS).
