*General Summary*
The Mechanic is responsible for performing skilled maintenance and repair work on light-duty, medium-duty, and heavy-duty trucks, trailers, and heavy construction equipment. This includes preventive maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, and repairs in the field or shop environment. The mechanic must ensure equipment is in safe and reliable working condition to meet operational and DOT regulatory requirements.
*General Responsibilities*
* Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and repairs on all company vehicles and heavy equipment.
* Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues and execute necessary repairs.
* Perform oil changes, fluid checks, filter replacements, and lubrications on equipment.
* Service and repair brake systems, engine components, suspensions, and drive systems.
* Maintain accurate records of services performed, parts used, and equipment status.
* Conduct DOT vehicle inspections in compliance with federal regulations and ensure documentation is properly completed and filed.
* Follow and enforce safety protocols and environmental regulations, including proper fueling and waste disposal procedures.
* Operate service truck and perform field repairs on job sites when necessary.
* Maintain cleanliness and organization of shop, tools, and service truck.
* Assist in training junior mechanics or equipment operators in proper maintenance techniques.
*Job-Specific Duties*
* Drive service truck to job sites to perform on-site repairs or maintenance.
* Conduct routine lubrication, greasing, and fueling of equipment in accordance with company policies and EPA regulations.
* Check and fill all fluid levels; perform fluid sampling and documentation as required.
* Complete miscellaneous mechanical projects as assigned by supervisor.
* Report directly to job-site supervisor and shop department manager.
*Knowledge, Skills & Abilities*
* Working knowledge of Caterpillar equipment and dump trucks preferred.
* Knowledge of and ability to perform DOT required inspections on trucks and trailers.
* Understanding of all service points on company-owned equipment or the ability to be trained.
* Ability to read, understand, and follow equipment manuals, safety procedures, and supervisor instructions.
* Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and undercarriage components.
* Must have sufficient proficiency in English to follow verbal and written instructions and safety commands.
* Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
* Must have a valid driver license. CDL preferred.
*Typical Physical Demands*
* Requires full range of motion: standing, bending, crawling, climbing, squatting, twisting, reaching, and kneeling.
* Regularly lifts, carries, pushes, and pulls objects up to 75 lbs.
* Requires use of hands and feet for operating hand/power tools and foot controls.
* Prolonged periods of standing, walking, or sitting.
* Requires corrected vision and hearing within normal range.
* May work at heights or in awkward, confined spaces.
* Must be able to work under physically demanding and occasionally stressful conditions.
*Typical Working Conditions*
* Frequent exposure to outdoor elements including rain, snow, sleet, mud, dust, heat, and cold.
* Exposure to construction site conditions including noise, vibration, and moving equipment.
* May be required to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, holidays.
* Must be adaptable to working both independently and as part of a team under varying job site conditions.
