*General Summary*
The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for the development and implementation of new manufacturing processes, participation in special design requests, and continuous product or process improvement programs with the objective of enhancing the product offering, improving quality, minimizing production cost, and sustaining a competitive advantage in the market. This person will need to be a hands-on type engineer with good mechanical aptitude.
*Essential Duties and Responsibilities*
* Generally responsible for the introduction of new processes and equipment from concept to implementation to support new product development, Lean Manufacturing objectives, and continuous process improvement programs. This would typically include manufacturing process development, process documentation, operator training and certification requirements, and tooling.
* Work with the Design Engineering, Sales, and Operations departments to establish priorities, schedules, and action plans for the manufacturing of components required for sales orders and new products.
* Be able to clearly interpret production assembly and component drawings in order to accurately fabricate and assemble finished product per customer order requests.
* Increase manufacturing efficiency by improving work methods, material flow, tooling/jigs/fixtures, plant layout, routings, establishing training when required, & computer programs/systems. All new process initiations are to be analyzed for financial payback, quality enhancement, etc.
* Be able to check for non-conformance issues of both internal and external provided parts by verifying dimensions with devices including but not limited to: calipers, micrometers, height gauge and optical comparator.
* Be able to identify and trouble shoot production issues and serve as a liaison between departments, as needed, to obtain documented resolutions.
* Provide for a safe work environment by participating in Pottorff’s Safety Program and reacting to safety concerns as they present themselves.
*Education / Experience Requirement*
* Four-year degree in Manufacturing/Industrial/Mechanical Engineering required.
* Three (3) to five (5) years of experience required in this type of role with demonstrated improvement changes.
* A thorough understanding of light steel fabrication processes (roll forming, punching, shearing, welding, sawing, etc.).
* A working knowledge of equipment automation such as controllers, automation components, etc.
* A general understanding of facility operations (utilities, cranes, hazardous chemical control, etc).
* A working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles.
* A good understanding of Safety Programs and objectives.
* Willingness to travel when required.
*Specific Skills Required*
* Strong analytical ability & mechanical aptitude is essential.
* Good communication skills at all levels (Spanish speaking is a plus).
* Highly organized, strong project management skills, and problem-solving skills.
* Proficient in writing reports, business correspondence, & procedure manuals.
* Skilled with MS Office and 3D Solid Modeling (Solid Works Preferred)
