Principal DevOps Engineer
Location:
Remote (Must be UK based)
Type:
Permanent
Salary:
Up to £100,000
Looking for experienced DevOps Engineers to join our clients growing engineering organization, now over 1,000 people. These are senior, high-impact roles for leaders who thrive on enabling teams, driving automation, and shaping DevOps culture across large-scale environments.
You will work within an enablement team whose mission is to help engineering teams deliver software faster, safer, and more reliably. The role blends technical depth with leadership: we need people who can think strategically, challenge the status quo, and guide the evolution of our on-premises private cloud platform.
The Role:
Partner with development and infrastructure teams to design, build, and enhance CI/CD pipelines.
Champion DevOps practices and automation across multiple engineering teams.
Build and manage infrastructure as code using tools like Terraform and Ansible.
Support and evolve our private cloud (VMware-based) environment, currently 50/50 on-prem/cloud and aiming for 70/30 on-prem.
Drive standardization of build, release, and deployment processes.
Enable teams to deliver software efficiently while maintaining reliability and compliance.
Act as a thought leader, mentoring peers and influencing engineering culture.
Key Skills:
8 to 10 years of experience in DevOps or software engineering roles.
Proven expertise in CI/CD processes, automation, and release management.
Strong foundation in software development practices, not just systems administration.
Hands-on experience with VMware, Linux, and Windows environments. Proficiency with tools such as:
Terraform, Ansible, Azure DevOps (YAML pipelines)
SALT Stack or similar automation frameworks
Programming knowledge in Java, .NET, Python, or similar languages.
Ability to bridge the gap between software engineering and infrastructure.
Experience supporting large-scale teams (200 to 1,000+ engineers).
Note: This is not a cloud-migration or Kubernetes-focused role. Focus is building a robust private cloud through automation and engineering excellence.
Benefits
Fully remote & flexible working
7% annual bonus
45 days holiday (including bank holidays)
Annual pay reviews
Private healthcare, including eyecare & dental
Annual certifications allowance
Research indicates that men will apply to a role when they meet only 50-60% of the requirements, while women and other underrepresented groups often look for a 90-100% match. If this role excites you but you don't tick every single box, please still apply. We'd love to hear from you.
