About

The Acceleration Agency is looking for a Technical 3D Artist with GIS experience to help our team create cutting edge Digital Twins. This role combines traditional 3D artistry and GIS (Geographic Information System) skills to create realistic and immersive 3D geographic visualizations. The role bridges the gap between creative teams and developers, ensuring that visual assets for geospatial projects are both stunning and technically sound.

Responsibilities

  • Create 3D geographic content: Produce high-quality 3D models and visualizations of urban environments, landscapes, and other features based on GIS data.
  • Develop immersive experiences: Build interactive and immersive 3D experiences, such as Digital Twins.
  • Optimize 3D assets for performance: Streamline 3D models and textures for efficient use within ArcGIS applications and other immersive platforms like game engines and AR/VR.
  • Manage GIS data: Work with geospatial data, including lidar, point clouds, and other GIS information, to preprocess, edit, and maintain 3D content.
  • Develop tools and pipelines: Create and maintain tools and workflows to automate the 3D content creation process and improve efficiency for art and animation teams.
  • Integrate and troubleshoot: Serve as the technical liaison between artists and developers, resolving technical issues related to 3D art production and asset integration into game or rendering engines.
  • Collaborate and communicate: Work with a multidisciplinary team of architects, planners, designers, and programmers to translate creative concepts into visually stunning and functional solutions.
  • Stay current with trends: Keep up-to-date with emerging 3D visualization technologies, such as scripting languages and rendering techniques, to continuously improve workflows.

Qualifications and skills

Technical expertise

  • Proficiency in 3D software: Expert-level knowledge of industry-standard 3D modeling and texturing software, such as Blender, Maya, and Substance Painter.
  • ArcGIS experience: Hands-on experience with Esri's ArcGIS platform, including ArcGIS Pro and CityEngine.
  • Real-time engine knowledge: Familiarity with real-time rendering engines like Unreal Engine or Unity, especially for creating immersive environments and interactive content.
  • Scripting ability: Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python for automating workflows and managing geospatial data.
  • Visualization and rendering: Strong skills in creating visualizations and rendering photorealistic scenes.
  • PBR workflows: A solid understanding of Physically Based Rendering (PBR) material creation and workflows for creating realistic textures.
  • UV mapping: Mastery of UV projection and unfolding techniques.
  • Data handling: Experience working with CAD, BIM, point cloud, lidar, and/or satellite imagery data.

Artistic abilities

  • Strong visualization and design skills: A keen eye for detail, composition, and aesthetics, with a passion for transforming abstract concepts into immersive visual experiences.
  • Portfolio: A strong portfolio demonstrating technical art projects, problem-solving skills, and a high standard for 3D visualizations.

Soft skills

  • Problem-solving: A strong capacity for critical thinking and creative problem-solving to resolve technical and artistic challenges.
  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills to effectively collaborate with both creative and technical teams.
  • Collaboration: The ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a cross-disciplinary team.
