About
Summary
The Shop Superintendent is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of multiple shops in Alberta, Saskatchewan and the Northwest Territories. The shop superintendent ensures the large and diverse fleet is maintained to the highest standards and maintenance practices that satisfy all regulatory requirements. The successful candidate will be leading teams of shop and field maintenance personnel, and will act as a main contact for coordinating maintenance with operations groups to ensure minimal disruptions and down time
Responsibilities
Shop Management
- Schedule and prioritize work orders for maintenance, repair, and inspection of equipment and vehicles.
- Forecast repairs and develop winter overhaul budgets, closely monitoring expenses to ensure budgets are on target.
- Maintain accurate records of all equipment and facility repairs and inspections.
- Coordinate with parts team and operations to prepare and plan for shop/field repairs and maintenance.
- Direct meetings with shop foreman and crew members to discuss equipment issues and plan job scopes.
- Coordinate company rental fleet assignments.
- Coordinate external services.
- Ensure NSC fleet meets all maintenance requirements and follows NSC vehicle policies.
- Must ensure a solid understanding of and comply with the principles of the company's Code of Ethics.
- Other Shop Management duties and special projects as required.
Employee Relations
- Identify staffing needs and conduct interviews, hire, and/or train employees accordingly.
- Liaise between the company, employees, and third-party organizations and the Human
- Resource Department on a regular basis on a variety of Human Resource related matters.
- Delegate tasks and accountabilities.
- Advise and support team members at remote locations.
- Other Employee Relations duties as required.
Safety
- Champion a culture of Safety by promoting, executing and adhering to the company's safety program, and encourage all employees, sub-contractors and consultants to adopt safety as a culture.
- Work with Safety Department to investigate damage, incidents or near misses in the worksite, and ensure proper procedures are carried out according to the Company's Safety Program.
Qualifications
Education, Training and Certifications in one of the following :
- Journeyman or Red Seal certification as a Heavy Equipment Technician.
- Technical diplomas in mechanical engineering or related fields.
- AND a Valid Class 5 Drivers License.
Work Experience:
- Minimum 5 years' supervisory or leadership experience in a shop setting.
- Budget development experience.
- Experience leading daily/weekly team safety meetings.
- Experience using an ERP software an asset.
- Experience in the construction industry an asset.

Working Conditions
- Overnight and out of town travel to remote and isolated areas may be required on occasion.
- Overtime as required.
- Work is in a shop office setting and will include sitting or standing for extended periods of time, extended computer use including exposure to blue-light and wrist dexterity and occasional exposure to typical shop hazards
- Work will involve field visits which could include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.
- Must comply with the company's drug and alcohol testing requirements.
