Position Description

The McGill University Department of Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences invites applications for a full-time Clinician-Teacher at the rank of Assistant Professor (Clinical) based at the Jewish General Hospital-CIUSSS du Centre-Ouest-de-l'Île-de-Montréal. This is a Contract Academic Staff position and does not confer eligibility for tenure.
The Department of Medicine within the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences is a leader in academic medicine. Our educational and research missions support excellence and innovative clinical programs across the network of teaching hospitals. The Jewish General Hospital is one of McGill's major teaching hospitals affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Canada's internationally renowned McGill University, located in the vibrant and multicultural city of Montreal, in the province of Quebec.

Job Duties

The successful candidate will be appointed to clinical practice in the Department of Medicine, Division of Geriatric Medicine at the Jewish General Hospital-CIUSSS du Centre-Ouest-de-l'Île-de-Montréal. They will join the Geriatrics group, which consists of 5 full-time academic geriatricians and 4 Family Medicine members. The successful candidate must be interested in pursuing an academic career.

As a Clinician-Teacher, the successful candidate's major non-clinical focus will be on teaching the next generation of physicians. Teaching activity will include both didactic and clinical teaching.
The clinical responsibilities of the successful candidate will include rounding on the clinical teaching units, covering consult services, attending in outpatient clinics and taking evening and weekend on call duties in Geriatric Medicine. A specific interest in cognition and cognitive disorders in the older adult, as well as consultation competencies in the Emergency Room and the Inpatient Unit is encouraged.
The incumbent will also be expected to be actively involved in relevant aspects of McGill's academic mission (e.g., research, teaching, supervision of students and residents and involvement in academic and administrative committees).

Qualifications and Education Requirements

Candidates must:

  • Hold an MD degree, and must have completed specialty training in Geriatric Medicine;

  • Be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent);

  • Be eligible for licensure in the province of Quebec and hold certification by the Collège des médecins du Québec;

  • Have completed, or intend to complete at least one additional year of clinical and/or research training, or hold a MSc or PhD degree in a domain pertaining to aging and geriatrics;

  • Bilingual language skills (French and English) are preferred, or a commitment to acquire the necessary language skills to practice medicine in Quebec. Candidates should be able to interact in English and in French with patients, families and health care professionals.
