About
Assist the lead instructor in delivering CNA-specific training aligned with state regulatory standards for nurse aides, including direct patient care skills, safety, and infection control. Demonstrate, model, and evaluate proper student technique for state-tested CNA clinical skills (e.g., transfers, personal care, vital signs, and range of motion exercises). Monitor student safety and compliance with PPE, standard precautions, and HIPAA-compliant resident communication in both the lab and clinical settings. Supervision of students on or off site during required clinical rotation hours and work-based learning experiences at partner long-term care and extended care facilities. Prepare, organize, and maintain clinical lab equipment, hospital beds, patient simulators, and medical supplies to ensure readiness for daily instruction. Monitor student behavior, engagement, and professionalism; provide supportive redirection to maintain a safe, respectful learning environment. Assist students with modified instruction and reinforcement of material as needed, including accommodating students with documented IEPs or 504 Plans. Maintain necessary documentation regarding student skill checklists, lab performance, and accommodations in collaboration with the instructor. Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
Required: A minimum of 60 college credit hours from an accredited institution OR 4,000 hours within the past 6 years of recent, documented experience in a clinical healthcare setting (e.g., long-term care facility, hospital, rehabilitation center). Preferred Experience: Prior experience working with high school-aged students or in an instructional/coaching capacity.
Certifications and Qualifications
Required Licenses/Certifications: Current, unencumbered Michigan Certified Nurse Aide (CNA), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), or Registered Nurse (RN) credential. Preferred Certifications: Current CPR/First Aid Instructor certification (or willingness to obtain).
Required Skills & Abilities
Expert knowledge of foundational nursing assistant skills, long-term care safety standards, resident rights, and basic anatomy/physiology. Thorough understanding of HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build professional rapport with high school students, instructional staff, and clinical site personnel. Proficiency with instructional technology and standard medical lab equipment used in nurse aide training (e.g., mechanical lifts, hospital beds, blood pressure cuffs). Ability to work effectively with students of varying abilities and backgrounds in a fast-paced, hands-on clinical environment. Commitment to supporting student achievement and professional growth.
Physical & Environmental Requirements
Work is primarily performed in a classroom and simulated healthcare environment; must be able to safely navigate and manage a variety of medical supplies, clinical equipment, and instructional materials.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and move about the classroom, lab, and clinical site for extended periods to provide hands-on student supervision and skill demonstration. Ability to frequently lift, carry, push, or pull classroom/medical supplies and equipment up to 50 pounds with or without mechanical assistance. Manual dexterity and sensory abilities required to safely operate medical equipment, demonstrate patient transfer techniques, and evaluate student clinical performance.
Compensation and Employment Details
Pay Range: $25.50-30.00 Per Hour commensurate with experience Full-time, School Year Calendar- 183 days per year Employee Group: Non-Union Hourly Benefits: Full benefits package, including health, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance. MPSERS provided retirement plan.
