Student Health Aide

The Student Health Aide is responsible for monitoring the health and welfare of assigned students, delivering direct care to medically fragile students as directed by, and under the supervision of, the building/district RN in charge. The Student Health Aide also assists the classroom Instructor in creating a positive learning environment to facilitate the personal, social, and intellectual development of students. To accomplish these tasks, the Student Health Aide works closely with the staff and administration of the District.

Essential Functions include facilitating the personal, social, and intellectual development of students, establishing a positive learning environment, ensuring all activities conform to District guidelines, communicating and working effectively with members of the school district and community, reacting to change and frequent interruptions in a productive and positive manner, operating all classroom equipment appropriately as assigned, implementing the vision and mission of the District.

Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions include the ability to regularly lift/move up to 50 lbs, some physical exertion, working in noisy and crowded environments, and being flexible regarding scheduling, working conditions and locations.

General Responsibilities include assisting classroom teacher and school nurse in the daily care of students with health care needs, working with small groups of students, assisting individual children in need of special educational attention, performing clerical duties, guiding independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up by the teacher, assisting teacher with non-instructional classroom duties, observing and following all school district policies, implementing and following all District health and safety policies, performing other tasks and assuming other responsibilities as directed by the Principal or Teacher, administering medications, tube feedings, and other nursing tasks/procedures as assigned and delegated, assisting students with activities of daily living, assisting with implementing and documenting health care plans, monitoring students during assigned periods within a variety of school environments, adhering to required program guidelines, maintaining appropriate, confidential records, providing timely reports, keeping student information and records confidential, keeping current on new information, innovative ideas, and techniques by attending staff development activities and participating in professional growth opportunities, and ability to perform other duties and assume other responsibilities as assigned by the Supervisor of Special Services in accordance with negotiated agreement.
